Re: getting old fast - no - it's beyond old!

I agree with the OP, and it doesn't matter what the particulars are. It could be a question about a 470 or an old OMC 800...people come here to find ANSWERS, not to be the target of ridicule by keyboard commandos. Like Dad always said: If you can't say something helpful, then just say nothing.

It's not an iBoats thing...it's an inherant problem with all "hobby" forums. A thick skin is helpful. The mod's can't police every thread, but a good, helpful user community can make it uncomfortable for the trolls, and they will soon find another bridge to hide under.

There is always a loud 10%, and a silent 10%. It's the 80% in the middle that makes a forum good or bad.

Just my .02

Agreed! there are people that want to argue on every forum. My guess is they can't win an argument with their wives, so have to come on here and prove themselves! Some of the "trolls" are the regulars on the site, look at some of the posts and you will see the same names appearing on every one!!

Maybe it just me but I don't see anyone ridiculing anyone who asks questions when they need help with their 470 or OMC. I do see people advising people not to buy either which is GOOD advice. There is definitely a difference between the two types of questions.

Ayuh,... That's the credo I live by....

As for the rest of the whiners,...
Feel free to go to your CP, 'n put me on your Ignored List.....
If ya don't like what I've got to say,....

Don't read it......

Being new here I'm surprised that people would consistently rip on anything Mercruiser. Being an OMC owner for the last 10 years I have always looked at any model Mercruiser as a quality product. I have always thought of Mercruisers as the Chevrolet of the marine world while maybe you could say that OMC is more like American Motors Corp (AMC) :D

Forums of any kind are made up of anyone with a computer and an opinion on a subject. You don't even have to be knowledgeable about the subject, all you need is an opinion.
When anyone asks a question, chances are good that you are going to receive an answer that you don't like. As long as that reply does not violate any forum rules, you only have 2 choices on what to do with posts you don't like, ignor 'em, or complain about 'em.
Don't expect to change other posters into ignoring your post. It won't happen. It's a lot easier for you to ignore their reply.

To participate in forums, you need thick skin 'cause you aren't always going to find the participants to be polite, politically correct and trying not hurt your feelings.

If you have problems with a reply to a post, use the report post icon that looks like this
report.gif
then the moderators can decide what to do with it, and if it breaks any rules.
