Hi folks, thanks for looking at my post. I have a 1986 150 mariner that I want to premix the fuel and oil, instead of taking chances with injection. I have spoken to my freindly wrench and he said "that while failures in this system are somewhat rare the outcome is usually catastopic". He suggested that I take the pump lose, remove the shaft, and then bolt the pump back on, and plug the oil line and I have heard here to pull a purple wire to disable the alarm whilst leaving the over temp intact. Questions are,if I follow this can I put the injection back in action by just putting the shaft back, hooking the lines and wires back? I would like to leave as many parts of the system untouched in case the next guy wants to use the injection. This way it looks like the only part i have to keep up with is the shaft. I have read about the plate here, but I would just as soon leave the pump bolted up if it poses no threat.

Re: Going to premix??

I hate to see a post go unanswered, so here goes.

The general concensus here on the forum has usually been to remove all components. You can get them at your dealer. Remove the shaft and relace it with a shaft that holds the gear in place so it dosent just bounce around in there. If the gear comes out with the shaft you are ok. Either use the factory blockoff plate or make one yourself. Do a search and you should find all the info you need to do this. Tempted to do it myself, but have left it alone due to the suggestions here on the forum.

That's what exactly was done to mine 1986...

The line from the onboard tank was plugged just where it enters the block...

Re: Going to premix??

update: I talked to another wrench about disconnecting the injection and he showed me a real easy way that leaves all components on the engine/boat. All that is involved is unhooking both lines on the oil pump and plugging them. Next attach an appox 6 inch 5/16 i.d. hose in a loop fashion between the 2 barbs on the oil pump, make sure and fill it with TCW 3 before hooking the top one up. Lastly unhook the blue wire that comes from the little oil tank. If you want to go back to injection all you have to do is take the loop off, hook the hoses back up and plug in the blue wire.

looped my merc 135T oil pumps and the alarm doesn't sound at all, didn't disconnect nothing but plug the crank pressure line and output from the engine resevior, works great.

Re: Going to premix??

just to add my 2 cents. mercury makes a special plug for when you take off your injector pump, you put this back in its place. if you are going to disable it either leave the pump on the motor as the others have said or get the plug that mercury has. I dont remember exactly why but I think on the other end of the shaft there is a bearing that can slide out of the block if the shaft is not in its place, this I believe is why merc has the plug. if I remember correctly that is.

josh
