Well, I`ve been working on this boat, it seems like all summer and I`m this close to being completed. So last night I decided to do a compression test. Here`s where stupid comes in. Start the motor to warm her up, shut her down , pull the plugs and screw in the compression tester (just using the rubber hose to fully seat the tester). Go to unscrew the tester and it needed a wrench to back it out. Come to find out it had the metric adapter on it. STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! I could kick mtself in the a--. Questions 1) Just run a chase thru it and hope there`s enough threads remaining to keep the plug from shooting out like a missle. 2) Helli coil it. (or have it done by a pro). 3) Source a used head (port side) all sites I looked at said they were obsolete. This is a 1973 115hp #115393m rude. It`s a strong running motor and I don`t want to give up on her. Compression test results were 118 psi +/- 2 psi. Thanks to all for any help. Just call me STUPID!

It should be 14 mm. Are you sure it won't take a spark plug?

If you replace the cylinder heads, try to get a matched pair.

wish I could help, I have had sensitivity training here at work and I am not allowed to call anyone STUPID...

so I have had to resort to telling people they .."are similar to a stupid person"

that way i have not offended them near as much

sooo

you are SIMILAR to a stupid person

there

you are welcome

good luck

get a spark plug tap and run it down the thread first.. vacumn as best as possible with a necked down tube taped to the vacumn hose .

maybe you will be ok

Use grease on the tap to help catch any shavings created by the tap.

You foks are the greatest. Thanks for the quick response. I have not yet tried to put a plug in yet, but i will do as advised and clean up the threads first. Bob you are very kind in calling me stupid nicely. Last nite I wanted to kill myself. Ezeke, I will be ordering that head from you shortly. This is an origional head should I use heat to help with removing the bolts I can just see myself breaking one. One step forward two steps back. You wouldn`t perhaps have a silcencer cover for this model would you? Thanks to all I knew I could depend on you folks. Stupid

What I can't figure out is what was stupid about it. Spark plugs are metric, have been for the last 80 years or so. 14MM.

That's not my cylinder head, it just showed up in a search. Usually, the 10 large head bolts will come out if they are not corroded on the way through the cylinder head, which is the unthreaded part. Work slowly and don't be afraid to apply heat directly to the heads of the bolts. Sometimes turning the bolt in both directions after loosening will help.

When the bolts are hot, any pentrating oil will be drawn into the openings as the bolt cools.

When you have the head removed, you might want to check with a machine shop for an estimate on repair. Many good shops will do that for less than $50.00.

I do have an air silencer base that I don't need, but I don't have the cover for it.

Here's stupid for you....

I installed a piston stop tool in #1 (V6 looper), got busy, came back to it about 30 mins later, and for some STUPID reason, I turned the key.
Engine spun, #1 piston hit the stop tool, cracked the piston and knocked the piston stop tool right out of the threaded plug hole. Threaded plug hole was almost smooth....;);)

One head and one piston later, lots of work, but it runs.

That's stupid.
