Anybody know anything about fuel / water seperator filters. Can I bypass (hose through) my existing filter and install it externally. Can it be installed before or after primer bulb??
Yes it's a good idea to have one. I installed mine before the bulb as suggested from the mech at west marine to the idea if i had to replace it on the water or anytime i could fill it with fuel by pushing it in instead of pulling through.
Either way you should have one

Regardless of the engine, it is NOT a good idea to bypass any internal filter. However, adding an external water separator is a very GOOD idea. It should be installed between the tank and the primer, never after the primer.
Did mine a week ago, put it before the primer. Left the factory filter in place and it works like a charm. I think the primer pulled the gas through the filter on the 4th pump. Alot more peace of mind knowing all the gas going to the engine is nice and clean.
