thanks ahead.
'used johnson 140 OB with rebuilt head'. compression 125+ in all 4. runs good.
problem is the swivel points on the motor were not greased properly and rusted causing sticky left/right steering movement and a popping, metal to metal binding sound when tilting the motor up for towing. I see 4 grease fittings (2 for left/right and 2 for up/down). Do I change fittings, lube and use some WD40 or disassemble (shop work)and start from scratch?

Hey johnson140,
I'd try greasing the "cr*p" out of 'um first. You may start pumping the grease to it and push all manner of stuff out. Sure won't hurt anything. If that doesn,t work, then tear it down and clean everthing up.

g'luck & c/6

Hooty

hooty,
I'm picking the boat up this Weds.. I will grease the sh** out of it.
I'll post another message under subject: overheat alarm not working.
When I had the rebuilt Johnson 140 (1990) checked out, the mechanic said the overheat alarm on the temp gauge was not working. Any ideas? It's on a 1990 18' Searay bowrider.

j140
