Does anyone else have problems like this? I have a barely used '98 25hp 4 stroke yamaha, I can't even leave it alone 2 weeks and the carb gets crystallized crud.gas in it, i have to take it apart completely and clean jets, bowel, etc.. It does sit in 95F temps outdoors (N Fla), but this is rediculous, I use med grade gas, new gas usually w/ gas extender additive, tank is clean, lines/filter are clean, but this still happens, even if i drain the carb after use, alway discionnect the gas line, apparently there's enough drops of gas left in it to crystallize. Is this typical for all 4 strokes, or is this model famous, and finally, other than storing it in the shade, i need advice on how to leave it anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months without this happening? This summer I have to disassemble/clean it 4 times already!!!

Run Stabil in the gas all of the time. Run the motor until it stops with the fuel hose disconnected when you're done with it for awhile. That will remove most of the gas from the system and from the carbs. Use regular gas. Most higher grades have alcohol in them and that's not so good if it can be avoided. If you really want to get radical, leave the carb drains out til the next time. I don't think that'll be necessary. Certainly keep the fuel line disconnected. Keeping the tank in a controlled environment out of the heat would also help during the off-weeks..

I always do this--problem seems that the carb can't be 100% emptied, the piston/plunger in the bottom of the carb retains a little gas, and gets water condensation, corrosion, gets stuck--I'm wondering if everytime I'm done using it, if I drain the carb and spray a shot of fogging oil in it, would this be the best preventative?

I disagree with running the gas out of the carbs and it appears it doesn't work for you. Try leaving gas in the carbs and just run the thing every 2 weeks or so. I have never used Stabil in anything and never had to rebuild a carburetor or had a fuel injection problem in 45 years of owning all kinds of motorized toys. I recommend Chevron gasoline. Good luck8)

Are you getting your gas from the same place every time? You might try non oxygenated gasoline if you can find it the next time you fuel up. You'll pay for it as it will be premium grade, but sometimes that's the price you pay to keep things running the right way.
