Re: Help is anyone local motor has pushed my buttons for the last time

If its backfiring out the exhaust and the flywheel key is not sheared, there are probably 2 primary or plug wires crossed. Everything is labled. Follow the wires closely. From the wires out of the stator and timer base to the coils to the plugs. Youll find it.

The most common thing is the coil mounting. The two port coils will be mounted what looks to be upside down from the starboard coils (or vise versa -- however you want to look at it). That is the way its supposed to be. On one side the plug wires come from the bottom of the coil and on the other side the plug wire come from the top of the coil. If they are mounted so the wire comes from the bottom (or top) on all 4 then I'd bet thats the problem.

Follow the wires very carefully to make sure nothing is crossed. Its very easy to cross them.

Re: Help is anyone local motor has pushed my buttons for the last time

Hey Guys

Thank you very much for the replies I will give it one more shot. I dont think anything is crossed but I will double check with out a doubt.
All these parts were replaced due to the fact of the missing and stalling. Found weak spark out of coils changed them, found then losing spark changed power pack, now have great spark and same problem thats why I have had it
Thanks guys

I'd bet somethings crossed. Do you still have the cover for the pack with the schematic / lable on it?

Are you sure the flywheel key isn't sheared?

Re: Help is anyone local motor has pushed my buttons for the last time

You have to pull the flywheel off using steering wheel puller or like tool, when tightening make sure to tighten them to specs.

Theres a key that keeps the flywheel from moving, it's purpose is to keep the timming on the motor right. A sheard timming key would cause your timming to be way off... Causing your plugs to fire with valves open.

It's easy to check...and easy to replace.. but make sure the nut is tight..I think 105 lbs. Failure to do this step will cause future sheared key...EVEN in the Idle position.

Dave...I think you made a typo. Two strokes dont have valves. Four strokes have valves...but I bet you knew that tho.

White puffs of smoke may indicate water leaking into cylinder.

Head gasket or exaust cover gasket.

Sheard fly wheel key is highly probable, for back fireing.

Good luck.
