Well im new here, but I figured I'd try my luck as I am compleatly ignored on the Whaler forum.
So I got a 18.5' Boston Whaler with an Evinrude 140. Both are 83' I assume.
I beleive the Whaler is a GTX, but not sure as it is a bow rider not a center console.
So far with the engine to get it running nice I have chainged the wires & plugs and I replaced the rectifier. It runs nice now up at about 55-5600 at full throtle.
The issue is it is running a 14x13 prop. I want to replace it, but that prop is made for a house boat or pontune boat for a moter and boat this size. So why is my engine only up at 5500rpm? Shouldnt my engine run to high with this prop and the fact that it doesnt tells me I have something wrong? It sounds strong now, but should I do a compression test? I have not checked the setting on the back of the RPM gauge, but I think it is suposed to be 6? I would assume it is not the problem. There is a triangle arrow on the guage at 5500 and I assume that is the max RPM as that is what my boat runs at. I guess the boat should be running a 19 or 21 pitch but Im sure that would not work so I was going to try a 13.25x17. If that slows it down too much is there a way to adjust WOT RPM or is it just done off of idle RMP. Couldnt the throttle cable of streched? There are two adjuster wheels around the cables that come into the engine and I assume these are what I could use, but I also read about a stop screw. Basically I need to get the manual for this engine but am not sure where to get it.
I will keep posting here as I work to figure this out, but being a newb to this any help would be appreciated. I am good with a wrench but im just not farmiliar with outboards.
TIA
