wow glad you weren't hurt. i owuld say to claim it on insurance but unless you have your boat insured for a good value they would just total you out at 500 call it a day probably.

hope you get her back on the water soon.

Oh I reckon they'll be giving him whatever he wants......

Whoa - Unbelievable! Glad you're all right. That's about the closest call I've seen.

The gal in the office next to me is back after two weeks off. Guy in an Escalade T-boned her doing 100 kph through an intersection. She had the kids in the back too.

Like you they're all very lucky to be alive. She says when her car (Honda Accord) finally stopped tossing, turning and sliding she was sure she was already dead...Inexplicably, just scrapes, bruises and sprains. Great ad for Honda...

She does have a really disturbing haunted look about her though. Definitely not all back yet.

Wow... OK, Wow. Now let me... Wow. Alright, Wow.

Let's try this again, Wow... Seriously, Wow. No really...

I'm so glad you're OK... The idiot, I mean, old guy, too. You're alive, your not crippled, heck, you're uninjured!!! That's amazing. Someone was smiling down upon you. I'd keep that shirt. Wouldn't even wash it, ever. Please keep us updated on this. I'd love to hear what the guy had to say about what he's done and what could have happened due to his irresponsibility. Did you help him out of the water? What was his attitude when you and he spoke?

Again, I'm SO glad you're OK.

Glad you are all right apple!! Man that must have been a scary couple of seconds!!!:eek::eek:

Super fast boats make me a lil nervous, this is ONE of the reasons why.

(just to clarify, it's NOT the fast boats fault)

The picture of you sitting in the front of the boat is priceless. I can see the Statefarm insurance sign in the back ground.

Re: Hopin' This'll Buff Out

Yeah,
Kinda needless to say, but more than a little shook up by this. Can't seem to get the sound of the impact out of my head.
So I'm fishing up in Big Allison Creek by the bridge on Hands Mill. Then decide to shut motor off, float along on the 10-15 mph west breeze, and read for awhile. The photo of me in the bow seat is exactly how I was situated. Boat was oriented perpendicular to the channel and I was the only boat within 200 yards in any direction. I definetly heard him coming as the sound of one of these big bass boats at wot is unmistakeable on a quiet afternoon. Didn't even look up. Probably good thing as evasive action would have been to jump from bow into driver's seat, eh? Yikes!
The guy was very upset and kept repeating "You know what pi**es me off, I raced motorcycles for ten years and never injured my ribs!" Must've stated this three different times. He was lucid enough to tell the guys where to fetch his keys, and registration out of the boat.
Guy who came out from his house on shore when he heard the impact to assist said that the driver had stated his sunglasses and hat had blown off and he was blinded by the sun. Problem with that is that he's pretty much heading due west and the sun would've been of to his left quite a bit at two in the afternoon. Hard to say what really happened I guess.
You're exactly right his trajectory was skewed toward stern of my boat just enough to cause him to only graze me. Millimeters count, right? Still can't believe I didn't sink or that he came so close. That outboard lower unit of his gashed my starboard side down to within and inch of the water line.
He got assistance from a guy who came out with his boat but drove it back to the boat ramp on his own. No damage whatsoever that I could see. Probably a couple scratches on the bottom though, eh?
He apparently is alright as he called me Wednesday morning to apologize and assure me that his insurance would cover everything. I haven't contacted my attorney yet, as I'm waiting to see what their offer is first. Auto-Owner's Ins Co assessor is coming by today to take a look at my boat.

Alright I want to once again thank all here for the guidance and kind words over the last year or so. This is a great community, I couldn't have got this boat back from the dead without all your help.

applebj8, That is just crazy. So glad everyone is ok. Boats can be replaced, not people.

That outboard lower unit of his gashed my starboard side down to within and inch of the water line.

It's a good thing you didn't sing the State Farm song, your agent would have popped in the boat and you would have both sank.

I hope your back on the water soon.

Ok first off I am very happy everyone is ok

The skid mark on your shirt begs the question, if tha'ts what your shirt looked like what was the general overall condition of your underwear? Nothing specific but have you even found them yet?

I don't care how old the guy was he is a danger to society and has no place operating anything other then a wheel barrow.

Re: Hopin' This'll Buff Out

I run a fairly fast bass boat. The "windshields" on a bass boat are just to deflect low flying ducks so you have a fighting chance to duck under them. When you're driving, your face is full in the wind. Good eye protection is needed just to see where you're going.

Sometimes the glasses can get blown off or dislodged. At 70 mph you just plain can't see where you're going without them. In fact, at 80 years they probably were prescription glasses. A fast boat will stay on plane at slower speeds, so the solution is to slow down to about 30. It's negligent to stay at WOT when you can't see well.

About the (smirk) question about how fast do bass swim?
They usually stay put, right on the spot you found them yesterday, 30 miles up the river. Thus the fast boat.

One more thing. Most on this board would frown on drifting inattentively in the main channel. Still no excuse for collision.

A fella who runs me over at Mach 4 (main channel or not) might have bought himself two tickets to the gun show...

Glad you are both OK. Old guys don't catch many fish trolling at 70, but the ones they do are usually dandies :D

Glad everyone survived...That could have been a tragic headline in the paper..

Really? The sun was in his eyes? Sounds like a lame excuse for "I was going too fast and couldn't control my boat"... I bet his glasses came off in the impact:eek:

Awesome book about Quanah Parker "Empire of the Summer Moon". Greatest Commanche Chief of all time. One of the responding Deputies asked me if it was the Bible - hehe...
