I found soft spots in the floor of my 15' Larson tri-hull and cut about ½ the floor out months ago, then got side tracked by events and never got back to replacing the floor.

Now I have to move the boat 90 miles North on one of the roughest stretches of Hwy. 101 in the State of Oregon. The transom is solid but the only thing connecting the transom to the hull is the hull and the now removed floor. (No stringers) I plan to go slow and know all of the worst spots on the road, and will have a “transom saver” installed.

My question is: Do I risk having that 250 lb. Merc 800 still attached to the transom laying on the side of the road, or do you think it will make it? I really don’t want to pull the engine as I’d have no way to then transport it.

Any ideas?

Make a bracket out of wood and temporarily fasten it to the transom. fasten it to both the hull and trailer. Two or three of these along w/ the transom saver should work.

I think you'll be fine. I would say go ahead and use that transom saver. I assume your bunks or rollers go all the way to the transom. The hull bottom would be the most likely damaged if the support falls short of the transom. Good luck...

Thanx Bassboy and Jason.... the bunks do go to the rear and the transom sits right on the rear roller.
