Vibration? You can rip a frame with that kind of power if you jump on it hard enough, wood seems like it would have more issues ;)

Quick test - which side of the motor is that on and which side of the motor rises when you hit the gas?

Looking back on the motor, crack is on the right side.

Well waking up early and not being able to sleep, I thought i would poke around this morning at the cracks... its solid as can be. Still done feel great about this, but ill put some 3m 5200 on top and wait til winter to address this.

Yes, your wood can still be solid... but also wet and swollen, and it won't dry out being covered in fiberglass... and it won't get better, only worse.

It may not be wet swollen wood, but that is one of the first things I'd check for in the process of elimination.

Out of curiousity, where is the area in question? You mentioned you saw it when cleaning bilge but I don't see mention of where the cracks actually are. Is that a motor mount in view? Do you have a more zoomed out photo?

The black looking thing in the picture is the motor mount on the right side looking back to the engine. Taking the boat to a fiberglass guy friday to see what he thinks on this.

That's always the safest bet. And I wouldn't freak out about it, because it may very well be cosmetic from pulling out the motor and replacing it. Still hard to tell and he'll be able to sort it out quickly I'm sure. Even if it's "torque related", like everything else, it's fixable with the right "know how" involved.

If it's in the water you could go for a little ride and have someone give it some gas to see if the stringer pulls up.

I can't offer any additional technical advice, but I hope it works out. That's one sweet-looking boat!

Re: How bad is this?? Help...

So... Got home from work and gave a buddy a call across the lake from me who is very knowledgeable on this subject. He came over in his 81 cvx-20 thats fully restored(amazing looking boat) and take a look at the crack. He took a ice pick looking thing and started poking inside the crack and said it's just the fiberglass, it's solid underneath and then took a hammer used for making a certain sound to tell if the wood was rotted. He said it sounded the way it should... but I'm still going to having a surveyor come out Friday for 75 bucks to look it all over and test it, So after that I'll update. I have to say im feeling pretty confident that it should be a reasonable repair. In the off season I'm going to strengthen the motor mount stringers with aluminum cut out plates, which will set my worries aside I think. Thanks for all the responses!

... and what was your diagnosis Scott?

wet wood - 4 new stringers, 2 new mounts, new transom, new floatation boxes, new bulkhead. however while I was in there, I did build two 55 quart coolers into the floor.
