New impeller, t-stat (180). Norm temp on gauge was aprx 170 until recently (now in the mid to high 180 range). Ran into some sand...Was suggested to backflush motor. My ? is how exactly is this done? 2006 4.3l TKS carb. Thanks all!

I must raise the question of your T-stat - you sure yours was/is a 180? Because my 160deg stat keeps my temps right at 160 or a hair over. If you were at 170 - i would think you wouldn't have a 180 stat - but thats just my amateur 1cent talking.

year /model of engine?

huh - apparently i was mistaken - mine is a 170. merc part: 864493

you can look on merc .com 's part catalog to verify it with your serial number . I would think...think...with your year/model it would be the same as mine. (2010 engine for me...not much changed from what i can tell in the past few years)

I am sure the master of cooling problems can help clarify that also...Don? :)
