How do I set the timing on a 1987 BlackMax 200hp?

I am just looking for advice on how to check the timing on my 1987 BlackMax 200hp motor. The flywheel has the markings showing the degrees before and after TDC, but I do not see any mark on the flywheel showing where to point timing light. I know I need to attach timing light to the number 1 plug wire, with all plugs removed and turn over motor while fully advanced in neutral. How do I mark the flywheel to know where to shine timing light? Also, how do I actually advance the timing when light is connected? I have only done timing on my I/O, which is simply adjusting the distributor, but have no idea what to do on the outboard to adjust timing. Thanks in advance!

Awesome. Is there anyway to find TDC without the dial indicator?

Could carefully use a screwdriver....but dial indicator probably the best

I use the depth measure on a caliper. The caliper is accurate to .001". I have used a steel ruler as well. That is accurate to about 1/32". You are shooting for .464", which is just short of 1/2". Get as close as you can.

pointer is on tha flywheel cover... its what you may/may not need to adjust to tha .464 mark after usin' tha dial indicator part of tha timin' procedure....

Haha. Lucky for me, there is no cover on the flywheel!

one can be made if ya have tha know how but would be better for ya ta find a cover... any horsepower V6, '88 and older (has ta be for a 16 amp flywheel and clam shell cowls)... does it still have tha three 8/32 (maybe 10/32) studs, one on tha starter/oil tank bracket... one on tha oil tank bracket and one at tha rear outta tha block?
