ok, so i frankensteined a motor, and put a 2 wire tilt and trim unit on a manual tilt motor, and for all intensive purposes i put a 6 prong 2 way toggle switch on it, just to test its operation on the boat.

now the question is, how do i wire it up right???

the reason i say that, is the switch acts like it wont let enough current come thru it, the tilt motor always run slow and the motor acts like its a strain to pick up, BUT when i hook the two pump wires straight to a hot battery, it races up and down like it should.

a friend told me to use two old ford starter solenoids, and after finding a diagram on how to wire it up like that, it didnt work and i realized the diagram showed a 3 wire pump, where i have a 2 wire pump.

im pretty much at a loss, can it be wired up with the two starter solenoids? or do i need something else? what do i do?

I have a CMC and it uses a big relay, I don't think you can send that much power through a toggle switch, so you will need some type of relay to get full power to it, mine is a 3 wire though and I am electronically retarded so I can't answer the solenoid part.

Solenoids will not work on a 2 wire motor, unless you used 4 of them. The relays are quivalent to heavy duty single pole double throw switches. Solenoids are equivalent to heavy duty single pole single throw switches.

You will need switches capable of handling 50Ams of power or more.

Of course solenoids will work; that's why they are between your battery and the starter motor for example.

The older three wire PT&T always used a solenoid for tilting up the motor.

It would take two solenoids and a proper switch to do the job, or a single reversing solenoid could be used. The reversing solenoid is a better choice.

Search "reversing solenoid" in this forum. or check this: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=293479&highlight=reversing+solenoid

Find a used control box from a scrap motor. Contains the proper relays, and is already wired. Mount it somewhere inside the cowl.

well today i picked up 2 fiamm 30amp 5 prong relays from the auto parts store, tried EVERY wiring diagram i could find, and nothing works.

for what its worth, i found using a test light, that when i energize number 30 on the relay, both number 87s energize when switched on

somebody help me, anybody, im desperate now

Click the thumbnail for the wiring diagram for the OEM relay box. It would be easier to get a salvage relay box as daselbee suggested.

i tried that diagram, the wires sparked

if i could get my hands on a salvage relay box i would, but there isnt an evinrude dealer for 30 miles around here, and no boat junk yard (that i know of) in the state

Here's one you could make an offer on: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Evin...4166626QQptZBoatQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQ5fGear

You can keep a search on Ebay for any item and they will send an email when one comes up. You can also post a "wanted" ad on Ebay.

In the meantime, call the salvage yards. Here is a partial list for you to research. The good ones will give you a limited warranty.
