How long can you run WOT

I have a 1999 evinrude 5hp 4 stroke on my basstender 10.6. The boat is slightly under powered so I have to run it fast most of the time. My question is how long can I run it at WOT before it will overheat or do any damage? I usually run WOT for 25 seconds then lower it down to 3/4 because I already overheated it once.

you have other problems. when was the last time you serviced your cooling system? you should be able to run WOT all the time without it overheating.

Agreed, WOT till it runs out of gas. Overheating is a reason for concern and immediate attention.

Need to know your RPMs. Motor has an operating range. WOT should be at top end of the range. Your prop may be allowing you to turn too many RPMs. My Yamaha's range is 5000-6000 producing 90HP at 5500. Too little pitch will make it rev too high.
