Sit down for a family dinner every night. Just wondering. We always have, my wife has dinner ready at the same time every weeknight and the family sits down to eat together. I think its a good time to communicate with the other family members. Weather it be a gripe or just small talk. We have had some real barn burnners at the supper table. My son has moved out but still shows for dinner when he is in the area, it's always a treat when he shows. I always valued that time with them. I give the wife credit as she has a career that keeps her working every day, but she stills manages to cook a nice meal for us, sometimes I have to do it and the conversation usally turns in to a talk about my inept cooking skills. :D . Seems a lot of folks have gotten away from the family dinner, with all the hectic work schedules and all. I hope to pass this tradition on to my kids. I think its healthy for the family in more ways that one.

Re: How many of you??

We don't have any kids, but we sit down together and eat and tell each other about our day. Growing up my family always sat down and ate, no tv on, non of that. If I had a family with multiple children, it would be the same way. Eat in the dining room at the table, no tv. She cooks for the most part, but to keep it fair, I do the majority of the housekeeping. The division of labor works out to roughly 50/50. We both work our arses off.

wife #1...We always tried to have a sitdown meal but with swing shift work it didn't always work out well. wife #2... after I went on disability retirement we always had a sitdown supper but alot of the time the bi..ch as i now call her would just blow up for no apperant reason (one time because I opened the bologna wrong) and leave the table. woman #3 and final...we like to sit down to supper and talk, I do 90% of the cooking and its nice when the kids come over to eat.

Sit down for a family dinner every night.
This single action does more to establish and strength family ties than anything else you can ever do. I think it has become lost on most Americans.

Also, preparing a meal for someone else is the same as "I love you" ... unless you are in Guantanamo Bay.

Re: How many of you??

The wife and I would have supper about three days a week together and chat about every day things. She would do most of the talking. Over our 36 year marriage I would manage to say a couple of things just so that she wouldn't think that she was talking to the wall etc. Now that our son has been home for the past 3 months the conversation is spread out. And on Mondays we are very fortunate to have 2lovely grand daughters that we baby sit for and that nite there are 6 of us for dinner and my daughter is so bubbly she and my wife do most of the talking.
And at Thanksgiving we have 25-30 family members and there is plenty of talking going on.

My wife works graveyard shift and I'm in school, but we all sit down to dinner at least three times a week. Wish it was every night.

We do the dinner together as a family at least 5 nights a week. Breakfast together most mornings, and a good many lunches also - when we are on the same continent, anyway.

We do quite often, mind you not neccescarily a fancy spread. On rare ocasion the TV is on. The kids are younger so the conversation aspect should develop later. For breakfast it is a kinda eat when your hungery. About twice a week try and do a Breakfast meal.

My daughter is very good with eating & habits however my older son gives me more troubles in both departments. He many times would rather be persuing other intrest's than a sit down meal, but when he does not cooperate it is punishment time. You would think he would learn...Maybe someday. :(

As often as possable! The kids are 26, 19, and 18 so it's not every day with all of them. More often with one of the 2 that are still home. But, we try to get together at least one time a week with all of us! I do 99% of the cooking. (that way I don't have to do dishes :D ) TV there is nothing on worth watching!
Richard

Growing up we had a specific time. We sit down to eat every night, but the time is always a little different. No biggie

Every night. Dinner used to be my most stressful part of the day. Teaching the kids manners, having them wear more food than they ate, the potty talk, keeping the dog out of the dining room, telemarketers etc. Now I am enjoying the fruits of all those stressful days. Dinnertime now is one of the best times of the day.

Thats my goal, I've hounded lots, some times it happens others not, I usually get home about 6:30 and if kids have baseball(just started) its tought sometimes., but I DON'T let em leave table for TV. My biggest gripe is TV, it comes LAST after EVERYTHING in our house. Heinz
