1977 55hp Evinrude. I've had it for the last 6 years, salt water use only. With the new power pack runs like a dream. Starts first rotation cold or hot. Gets fresh water flushed every trip. We have weather for boating all year, but if I dont get out for a week it gets fresh water flushed. It has a 3 inch layer of inox over the power head :)

Hi, I have a 1947 102 Series with clutch. I think it's an absolute star of an engine and a doddle to work on. Cheers, Andrew

1997 Evinrude 200 HP Ocean Pro with 2130 hours on it. Has only been run in SW.

Had both heads plained and new head gaskets installed last fall due to a leak in the #6 cylinder. Even though it runs well, the water passages around the heads are showing wear so it's getting time to replace it.

Hopefully get one more season out of it before hanging a new 225 HP E-TEC on the back

Re: How old is your engine?

I have a couple dozen ranging from 1938-1988, but most are 1950's Johnson/Evinrudes. My 1953 Johnson QD-14 10 hp is my favourite runner. 21 mph on a 12' tin boat.

1983 Yamaha 75 AET, run in most African waters from Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe to off Cape Point here in Cape Town South Africa. Still looks brand new and always starts first time.

2005 Mercury 150 XR6- runs like hell on my 17 foot glastron and the V6 idle sounds too good.

1992 Mercury classic 40 ELPTO 4 cylinder- one of the most reliable motors ever built. extremely smooth, great torque, QUIET and very good on gas especially for a 4 cylinder. As a matter of fact, a guy a few weeks ago asked me if that was a four-stroke it was that quiet.

summery: i could not be happier with both. Carburated 2 stroke outboards are awesome.

Re: How old is your engine?

My 15-footer has a 1980 Johnson Stinger 75 that I rebuilt in 1995. Has a bunch of hours on it since and still running strong.

My 18-footer has a 1984 Johnson 90hp that I rebuilt in 2006. We put quite a few hours on it this summer.

Both motors came to me blown, both due to overheating.

On my tin can I run a range of motors - everything from a 1951 Mercury KG7 Hurricane, to a 1955 Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5, to a 1954 Johnson 5.5, to a 1969 Mercury 35 tiller. But, the motor of choice for general ramming around is a 1970 Johnson 20... Most of the other motors not listed are ones we might get out once in awhile just to make some noise...
