all you have to do is get 2 battery cables put 1 neg to neg other pos to pos then hook up cables from engine like normal its not going to give you more cranking power just longer cranking.if you want to crank it over fast get a battery for a diesel then it will crank faster.

Actually, adding another battery will increase the cranking power. If you had the same cranking power out of just one than most of your trucks and heavy equipment would only use one battery rather than 2-4. The main reason trucks and equipment use multiple batteries rather than one large one is the cost of replacement is alot cheaper. Meaning if one went bad you don't need to replace all of them. Rather than adding an extra though, look into getting a battery with a higher CCA rating. The battery will likely be larger but will not be taking up as much room as two batteries. Plus than you won't have the added expense of the cables.

I stuck a pair of $35 wal-mart specials under the console with A-B switch. Console was dry location and I have never had another battery problem (going on five years with cheap batteries). Went to auto-parts-R-us and bought xtra heavy duty jumper cables for wires. Used propane gas to solder on solid copper lugs. Downside was change in weight dropped 3-4 MPH off top speed. Upside was level deck on anchor, much smoother cut through chop, and a boat that went from idle to plane almost instantly.

If your boat happens to be a center console fishing boat then it is a change that I would whole-heartedly recommend.
