hull design?

my other bass boat is a venture----it has a pad under the transom..........it drops 3" or so and the motor sets back 3" or so

my current bass boat (the one with the motor--bassmaster) -------------has a pad under the transom that drops 4" or so and has about 6" of set back.

the anti-ventilation plate is approx 1-2" above the keel on the bassmaster.

in the venture i could trim the motor and lift the bow so that only about 2-3' of the boat was in the water-----splash well behind the driver seat.

in the bassmaster i cant lift the bow and the splash looks like it is coming from the front-------looks like its not even 3-4' from the bow.

is this hull design or do i need to get the motor a lil deeper?

Re: hull design?

There are many possibilities. Prop, setup, balance, wet foam, warped hull, hull design, plus others

I wouldn't think you need to get it deeper.

But you on the right track- you need to get it up on the pad and fly the nose some more.

What trim angle are you running at?

Re: hull design?

well i thought i would give an update.............in case someone had a similar question.

nsbcraig, i am not running a trim gauge and when i look back and watch it...it didnt angle much before my gps shows im starting to lose speed.

i did however find the problem:

i bought a parts eng a while back and needed the choke solenoid so i hooked her up......worked fine.

last saturday i had some trash get into my carbs so i took'em off and gave them a good cleaning.......

well before i re-installed the air silencer cover i thought i would make sure everything was moving like it should..and of course to see if there was still fuel pouring out of the carbs.................

i had the dang choke solenoid set waaaay too tight and the butterflies werent open but maybe half way :eek:

yep now i feel like an idiot

so today was the first chance ive had to take it back to the drink..........shes pretty fast --- got 51mph by myself.........according to my gps.

bottom line: dont assume anything is right...always make sure.......

i wondered how come i was getting better mpg.............

i never thought to use my old tach......i reckon the tach that came with the boat is a lil off.............today i read 5400rpm..so i put my old tach on the new to me boat and took it back out and read 5000rpm

now im wondering if i should raise it back up another notch and maybe get a few more mph.......but that will have to wait..im ready to fish.

gonna go tomorrow...i hope!!

p.s. i guess i should have also said i had given up finding the reason....i thought it was something like the water logged foam, warped hull, etc. ideas......i was just gonna keep fishin it .... after all it dont leak it just wasnt as fast as my other boat...it is now and maybe a lil faster

Re: hull design?

the bad part is it after i figured out what i did i was thinking this may belong in the "stupid human tricks" forum......lol

i guess you live and learn.....but you would think being an auto mech i would know better than to pull something like that lol :D

ive read most 115 eng will only reach mid to upper 40's on a bass boat so im pretty happy................the kids will enjoy tubing this summer....my buddies on the other hand may not....especially the way it comes out of the water now that it isnt restricted anymore.

this lil baby will hit plane in a few seconds.....im thinking of buying another prop to see if maybe i can get a lil more since it jumps out of the hole like it does....right now im running a 13x19 stainless on a '79 115..thinking of buying one of those expensive props now
