Ok, I haven't been able to do much because the admiral and I went to Green Bay Wisconsin (we are from VA) for a wedding. We went all over town and I found out that the Packers fans are very serious about their team. And they made us wear these cheese hats!

Today I took out the piece of repair I tried to make last time and sanded down bad roving. After a good while I finally finished my sanding.

Next I cut out a second wider sheet of 1708 to go over and reinforce the tabbing I already made from the stinger to the hull.

Then I cut out a 4th layer of 1708 to go over the original hole and extend under one of the bulkheads. This is the final piece of 1708 I'm using on the inside. My repair of the hole is CSM,CSM,1708,CSM,1708,1708,1708, hopefully that's enough for the inside :)

Lastly, I covered all the area I had cleaned and prepped with poly resin so maybe I can finally start a couple of fillets tomorrow and move in with glassing the rest of it.

Looking good. With 4 layers of 1708 and 3 of the CSM I think you got the inside!

Ok for those just seeing the thread now, here's the original hole I've been repairing. It was about 14 inches long, below the waterline and I could stick both hands through it..

2nd layers of 1708 being added..

Getting ready to add final layer of 1708 to the outside..

1708 is glassed on and cured..

outside is sanded and being prepared for gelcoat..

1st and 2nd layers of gelcoat applied..

spilling all over my driveway..

gelcoat is sanded down..

last layer of gelcoat applied..

I thought I was done but the perfectionist in me wants to keep sanding and gelcoating so there will be more to come.

Actually, do you think I need more gelcoat? I always heard that gelcoat being too thick will cause premature cracking. Is the one coat after sanding enough?

Your trailer could use another coat for sure... and it wouldn't hurt to put some more on the boat too.

I tried putting a black plastic trash bag on the trailer and driveway to catch the drips but it just kept blowing away or getting stuck to my feet. I'm going to sand the gelcoat off the trailer, and I had to get another quart of gelcoat but I'll get more on the boat.

So far I've used two quarts of gelcoat, one of them is probably on the trailer and driveway, two gallons of resin, a couple cups of 1/4 chopped strand, 7 yards of 1708, a couple yards of CSM, two quarts of cabosil, multiple mixing cups and multiple brushes.

I hope this quart of gelcoat I ordered is the last one I need for the repair.

Okay this one is done. I cleaned up the trailer, did my last layer of gelcoat and cleaned out my poor shop vac. I'll grind the crap off the driveway eventually.

Thanks! I'm going to take the boat out on Saturday for the first time since repairing the hull. I constantly find myself using the same two words to describe my boat when people ask, so I decided to name it that. The lettering came in the mail today and I stuck it on there.
