Safety lanyard switch
bad ign switch
battery stolen
oxidized points
bad coil
no voltage to coil
The list is endless, can you tell us what you have tried so far?

We are going to need a little more info to help. Is it no spark at the plugs, distributor, coil? Have you done any trouble shooting? Do you have a manual? Did it happen all of a sudden? Is this the first its been started this year?

Stuf like that

Is there 12V at the + side of the coil with the key in the "ON" position
Are the points installed properly and gap set

Manual #13 is for 90 to 97 models. BT likes to use any ole manual he has laying around. For your 1982 engine, the proper service manual is #3 for the engine and #4 for the outdrive. Download them here.

Proper reading is 4-9v. In your reply to my qestion from before you said no spark at plug 1, so your getting spark on the others?

If it is only the one plug, wire or plug is most likly the issue.

Yes, if you are not getting any spark at any:

1) remove wire from center of distributor that goes to coil, place it against the block for good ground and have someone crank the motor.

: If you get spark from the coil wire the issue is in the distributor
: if no spark from the wire remove the gray wire from the negative side of coil and try again
: if you get spark after the gray wire is removed the issue is a shorted tachometer
: if still no spark more trouble shooting needed

Try this and let us know.

Follow the sugestions here and you'll eventually find the problem. If you are getting spark from the coil then you should replace the condensor and points. Ta was my problem.
