Bummer about the being sick. Even more bummed you didn't get to take the Admiral for another cruise @BF... 14ft closed bow tinny isn't likely to get much attention... W/ a vintage OB and trailer at that price, it isn't likely to be grabbed by a saw-zall savant for a bow-ectomy either. Hope you both get to feeling better soon and the tinny hangs around til you can go grab her....

Good luck to the Mrs. WOG on the new TKR. Knock on wood, i have had mine done on my left knee for what will be 16 years come Nov. 5th. I still can't believe it has lasted this long. I am a big guy (275lbs.) And I was only 34 when I got mine replaced. I was the youngest TKR my Dr. had done at the time. Last checkup everything still looked good. Also i still have decent space in my right one, so doc thinks I should be good on that one for a few more years, although it does give me a lot of trouble.
Good luck on the tinny, I hope it works out for you.
Take Care, Troy

Thanks for everyones well wishes!!! It must have been the food, cuz...we're both back up and at em today. Good ole Pepto seems to have done the trick. Yesterday was NOT much Fun though!!!! The guy called about the boat. Said I was the only caller he's had on the boat so I guess it's safe for now. Said he'd call me if anyone else called and I could have first dibs!!! We'll see how it goes.

IUPappa, The Admiral is anxious about going back the 3rd time but she KNOWS that it has to be done. I'm thinkin that if all goes well with the surgery and the rehab I may give her a Surprise Birthday Gift on Dec. 24th and announce her Official Retirement from Work. She'll be 63 and I think she's DONE!!! She never gets on the forum so I think my secrets safe!!!

If you become a "Tinner" are you going to adjust your handle to something like Woodonglass&ReevitsinTin?:)

All the best to the Admiral! Hope everything goes smooth!! I've been dealing with two bad hips and it's no fun. I will be getting one replaced in October as well.

Heck for $600 bones I don't think you can go wrong Wood, Get healthy and go take a look, heck if it has good compression, and no holes in her, it may be worth it. I can see it will need some transom work, but not much. I've always enjoyed my tin boat, and just because I have both doesn't make me bad or anything. All the best and please do let us know how things end up.

I don't think you should do it.

Once you see how easy tins are to work on you'll start throwing rocks at the flamingo and then the next thing you know the flamingo will be on CL.

I guess it's all in what you know.

When you see this...

you may see an easy repair, but not me. I have seen the suggested methods for this repair and have seen the repairs when they're done. The Tinners say they are War Scars and to wear them proudly. Well that's not what I call em but to each their own. That may be considered an EASY repair to a Tinner and I suppose in a way it probably is. A couple of hours with some tin, rivets and sealant and you can have it patched. But it'll look like, to use your descriptive language that you so often use with Glass boats, a P.O.S. ! On a glass boat with that same hole and in about the same amount of time and effort I can patch that hole and make it virtually disappear. There won't be a Scar. It'll look New again as it should. Again, to each their own. I'll admit I HATE the itch and the dust of glass restoration, but the smell don't bother me and I LOVE the look and designs that can be acheived with Glass. Buckin Rivets don't look to be much fun either and pourin Gluvit into seams has it's challenges as well. Let's face it. Tin or Glass they both have their own challenges. Bottom line for me is...If it has "The LOOK" that suits me, I don't care what it's made out of, I'm Interested! I saw a boat made out of recyled 2 liter coke bottles that caught my eye for a bit, but the Admiral but the quietus on that in a hurry!!!:D

Oh I almost forgot, I don't think you should build that Glass boat that you say you're gunna build you'll prolly turn your Tin Can into Beer Cans!!!

Good luck with the boat! It looks like an awesome project, especially for the price. Be careful, when I was buying my Lone Star the seller told me I had first dibs on her for the upcoming weekend. (he canceled on me for the day I wanted, but seemed to be a really genuine and nice guy) That week I sold a bunch of stuff to free up some cash. The day before I was to go pick her up, I called the seller (2nd time that day) and he told me a guy from Canada offered him more money for the boat so he was going to sell it to the other guy :mad-new:. The next day, a few hours after I was supposed to buy it, I got a call saying the Canadian backed out. :cold: I doubt this will happen to you! Come to the dark (shiny) side!

The main reason I have not ventured over to the dark side is I boat 99% salt water . What is the real truth about corrosion with tin and salt ? That and I have not yet found a tin project that I would like to take on so far . Ya just don't see the old classic tin down here very often .

Yeah, I don't think you're up to a tinny resto either.

WOG, that pick axe hole shown there (from rob3307's post) is an easy fix. hammer and dolly, then tig weld to seal back closed. a bit more hammering and a bit of buffing with the DA and 280 grit and you would never know it was there.

you could patch it with rivets, a patch and sealant, however, why when there are better repair methods. Then again, we deal with aluminum construction and repair every day at work.

Hey SD. thanks. Yeah, but I've not seen or heard of to many DIY'rs that have the ability to re-weld their boats in that capacity. Most of them apply the rivets patch, or at least that's my limited experience. I FREELY admit I DON'T spend a lot of time cruising the Tin Boat threads so I may be WAY OFF BASE. I know for sure IDON't have that skill set to make a patch like that disappear, I'd have to have someone like you do it and pay for it. Being a C.O.B. That goes against the GRAIN. If you know what I mean!!! But I have seen a LOT of Newbs that can't spell fiberglass come one here and so some pretty impressive glass work by the time they're all done. Don't think they pick up Aluminum Welding quite as fast. But I could be wrong about that Too! Heck everybody knows I am just an... and sometimes I do put

Yep you are definitely NOT up to a tin resto. Of course I made a profit on my last tin flip of $2100 done in 90 days flat. Total outlay of $1650 for the boat motor trailer and materials sold in 98 days for $3750.

Of course I would never ever under any circumstance even consider doing a fiberglass restoration either, I would just assume watch one go to the bottom and become a fish attractor first.

Stick with what you are good at, and as far as fiberglassing goes, you are one of the best.
