Warden, the home depot resin that you are talking about has wax in it just so you know. I was gonna use it as well until I was told the same thing.

Shelf life is another reason to avoid resin off the shelf from auto parts stores, wally world & HD/Lowes. Particularly the MEKP. Most (all?) poly resins are a blend of a couple different resin profiles. The resin off the shelf at those types of stores is usually the slowest curing, lowest cost resins. Also makes it less then ideal.

The wax can be dealt w/, by sanding post cure, so it's time consuming & uses additional material (sandpaper) but old resin doesn't cure properly (if at all) & that can be a problem.
