I forgot to put the plug in today, actually didn't notice until I was away from the dock and heading down the river! Luckily I always do a check of the bilge box after I get away from the dock area. Thanks to all the stuff I have learned here I had a spare plug on board and I knew to put the boat on plane immediately while the spare was retrieved and put in place.

E

Ahem . . . 22 years and counting . . . I have, however, assisted on another club member's misfortune. Maybe why I haven't joined the club ;)

There are two types of boaters, those who have forgotten to put the plug in, and those who will.

I forgot to put mine in on the first day I had my boat. The boat didn't even leave my trailer before I saw water in it. =(

Being there and have done that. I know the feeling when you see water coming into the bilge and wondering if you have a hole in the boat. Then it hits you that you forgot the plug!!!

The one and only time I did it was when I was trying to sell a boat. It was a bass boat and it had a stepped hull so it was very hard to get the plug in. The guy that was looking at buying it, (And he did), drove the trailer out and parked it so I was sitting in the boat with nothing to do but thrust my arm in the water up to my armpit to install the plug. He never ever new anything about it and never ask me why my arm was wet or why the bilge pump was pumping water like a fire hydrant.!

Funny how you remember "not putting the plug in". I've forgotten twice. Once before I even got the rig off the trailer....like woody. The last time we was in the water underway putting out of the marina....the granddaughter says "Pappy...whay is the floor wet?" DOHHHHHHHHHHH!!

When I started to launch my first boat it quickly started filling with water. A friend with me yells out "where's the plug?" All I could do was look at him and reply "plug?" I didnt know there was one. So we quickly pulled the boat out and ran to Walmart to pick one up.

Okay, does it count if it's "one last outing" and the plug(s) in question should have been inserted in the already winterized cooling system?

Re: I now join club "I forgot to put the plug in"

I recently purchased a used motor from a local shop. While I was talking to the salesman, a rather self important and indignant fellow arrived.

He had taken his boat out for the first time this season and it filled with water. He was really upset with the shop for leaving the plugs out of his risers when they winterized the boat last fall. If he wasnt such an ***, I would have felt sorry for him. :)

I see those setups with the ball check valve that lets water out but not in if you forget the plug...why don't boat manufacturers use those I wonder....
