Re: Identify OMC Serial Number
Wow! Thanks. That was quick, so I assume it was pretty common.
That's definitely it, but mine never had the fancy stuff on the tank.
It doesn't say Evinrude or Sportwin on it anywhere, just Outboard Motor Corporation on the tag. Is that the way it should be?
I just googled it and see that there were three models . . . Sportsman ($55), Fisherman ($110), and Lightfour ($167.50), plus the Sportwin ($77).
The story behind it:
When I was a kid we used to rent a cottage on Clear Lake in northern Iowa. I was 10-ish, and would row a boat out to the middle of the lake and use cut bait to fish by myself. I guess my mom felt sorry for me so she bought this motor from the guy who owned the cottages (Gherke, or something like that). It was next to Hanson's PM Marine in PM Park on the south shore.
That would have been 1959-60-ish. Here's a picture from that era of a walleye caught with a Moose Fly (tied by Moose Hanson):

I last ran it in 1981. It is not in running condition now because it has been sitting idle.
Any value to it unrestored?
Thanks again.
