Re: If it didn't happen to me - I wouldn't believe it....crazy ramp story

One time I had to call my wife and ask her to bring me a spare set of truck keys, because I accidentally locked the doors when I got out of the truck after backing the trailer into the water. There it sat for 20 minutes while we all waited for her to get there. People were surprisingly patient. I was extremely embarrassed. No real damage done. I now roll down my window whenever I leave the truck running.

I think you would find life a more enjoyable experience if you were somehow able to work through problems without getting angry. Speaking from experience, I can say that this fundamental change makes all the difference in the world. Nobody can stop all problems from occurring no matter what you do. But you can change how you deal with them. Something to think about especially if you anticipate a truly dangerous situation where clear thinking is the top priority.

Not talking about the truck. I'm talking about your boat. Was it in the way of others trying to use the ramp while you searched for your keys?

Ya Know ... Thats a valid point. As aggravating as it was to you ... Do ya suppose the jet skiers and the asians and everyone else might have been thinkin'... Whats is UP with this guy, blocking the dock, he and his wife are walking back and forth to the truck. No ones even in the truck, tying up dock space. Maybe you might wanna look at YOUR ramp procedure. You took up valuable dock space and you were unprepared to load your boat. I pull the tow rig keys out of the boat glove box and clip em to my belt loop BEFORE I get to the dock..... Let he who has not sinned, cast the first stone............

I always roll down windows anytime on boat ramp as a safety practice. If rig were to go ever to go into water I would not need to try open door or let window down to get out of vehicle. I also unbuckle seat belt and only allow drive to be in vehicle...no passengers. When kids were little, they knew to wait at top of ramp (with life vests on) off to side away from ramp traffic (in grass, etc) while wife & I launched. As wife pulled up ramp to go park truck they would get in and ride with her. As they got older, they would met me at courtesy dock to tie off and wait for wife to get back.

Agreed - It also allows you to hear things that you may not necessarily see.

Compared to my youth, the Beaver had it made.

His 'cross to bear' was always Eddie Haskell! That guy was destined to go into politics.... :D

Here it is a beautiful Saturday, and I am not so interested in boating. Just because I know the ramps will be a zoo. And I too am a one man band when it comes to driving truck with trailer or driving the boat. Much prefer a quiet weeknight. I may try some commercial ramps. Sometimes the higher fee is worth it.

Sooo... Jet skiers regularly have $500 in cash on them? What's the season and is there a bag limit?

AHAHAHAHAHAHA !!! Good one bro !

Sorry - I just don't feel comfortable on my hands and knees in the boat as it bob's in the water - there are too many things that could happen - and much more serious than someone banging into it while it is tied to the dock....

Yea....great thought......The Asians and the jetskiers were so annoyed at me for taking up valuable dock space.....so they started banging into my boat...scratching the crap out of it....Yea....It's my fault...I don't know why I didn't realize that before....Pffft!

For the record - my boat was probably on the dock for about 30 minutes before I loaded it - in the first 10 minutes the first jetskier and the boat hit me....it wasn't because I was wasting time at the dock.

Keep in mind that the average wait time to load/unload a boat on a weekend at Silverwood is well over 15 minutes....So when that crap happened it was NOT because I was at the dock forever.

Unless some of you brilliant commentators have ever boated in SoCal....you probably shouldn't even add your .02 - It is seriously a completely different world. (I grew up in midwest on the Miss. River - it isn't even close to being similar)

So the answer is yes, your boat was taking up space and in the way of others who wanted to load. We've all had our moments at the dock. I'll suggest you had this experience because people were trying to maneuver around you. BTW...I'm not a brilliant commentator but I play one on TV.

So the answer is - during the majority of the knuckleheads banging into my boat , I was well within "my allotted time" at the dock....

You are a piece of work man...

Here is a thought...(once again because you have no clue what a SoCal dock looks like)...there are people maneuvering around people ALL DAY LONG!!! It is a crowded mess.....Yet...YET...they typically don't get their boat smashed into ONCE....much less FOUR TIMES!

Does that compute in that noggin?

No problem there bro. I guess 30 minutes in the loading area taking up space where others want to load is status quo for SoCal. Here in Ohio it takes about 5 minutes to load. Any longer and I'm wondering what the problem is.

Actually, as I read your story I was feeling your pain.

But in the back of my mind I was feeling even more pain for your ?bride??who you admit was probably happier searching the gravel than facing your ?steam coming out of my ears?. No one around you seemed to be immune from your anger. I can only imagine how your ?children? were responding to your handling of the situation?this might take years to surface.

No one enjoys sailing with Captain Queeg?been there, and done that.

I have seen your lack of tolerance on another thread, one that you could have easily just avoided a nasty comment. But that is not your personality?.

You are a virtual magnet for self-help links?here is one that your family would probably pray that you use:

Yea....the problem is - there are more boaters than ramps......and if you wait your turn by idling away from the dock, you will never get a chance, because people around here have no sense. They will drive right past you as you patiently wait - and cut in front of you for the spot that just opened up.

So what ends up happening is: People take a spot when the dock opens.....and then they get in a line with their truck to load. The line for the ramp on a weekend for loading/unloading can be 10-15 vehicles deep easily.

As stated before - I grew up on the Mississippi River - I used to work for a marina every summer- I can load/unload a boat in my sleep. It just isn't the same here in SoCal....Honestly, I don't enjoy boating near as much because of it....

I was wondering what you were talking about - and then I figured it out. Yea - if someone is going to publicly poke fun of less fortunate people who need EBT cards to get by - And implying that all people who go to Walmart need EBT cards..... and I respond with "Bad Joke" - I am not too upset about that.

There are good people who are struggling right now - wrong time to joke about that kind of thing IMO.

Here is the "closed thread" that somebody else (moderator) must have also thought was over the top.

Your "joke" is, unfortunately, your family's reality.

And we all know you; thanks to the bandwidth you used to 'vent' on everyone in your immediate vicinity that you didn't like.

At least you didn't use your "CAPS LOCK" to shout your rage...there is hope for you.

Use the link...and I sincerely say.

Happy boating!

Man - they had WAY more than $500 - I'll bet his roll was easily 10g......I was shocked.

You should have seen their setup - (Not a jetski expert - so I have no clue what they had) The 4 jetski's - trailer and Escalade EXT all had a custom paint job that matched - Asanti rims on the TRAILER! that matched the truck.....I bet their customizing of everthing was easily 50 grand...probably more.

I sincerely say - go annoy someone else....you are a troll with nothing to add. I shared a crazy scenario that happened to me on this forum for others to read and smile.....most got it, but you want to start a mess.....Go boating or something....(if you even have a boat.)
