I'm redoing a 1962 Boston Whaler Nauset. The engine is a 1985 90 HP Evinrude. I'm unsure of which wires go to which terminals on the ignition. The following is what I have and where I'm at.

The old ignition switch has 6 terminals, C,A,M,B,M,S Not all of the wires are on the terminals so I can't use it for reference.

The new one also has 6 terminals, C, A/S,M,B,M,I from Surplus Marine Supply, supposed to be the correct model for push to choke Evinrude.

Does it make sense that one terminal is marked A & S or am I somehow reading it wrong?....I don't think so. I'm guessing that I is Ignition but what wires go there? Do the wires from the instrument terminals marked Ign. go there or do they go to the A?

So far I have Red with Purple stripe to B
Purple with white stripe to C
Black with yellow stripe to one of the M, not the vertical one.
Yellow with red stripe on what appears to be A/S. I know that wire goes to A, but as I said it appears to be A/S.

I have 4 wires left gray, brown or tan, purple, black. I'm thinking gray is for the tach and purple is maybe volts and brown might be temp? Anyway do you have any idea where those 4 wires go and what about that A/S terminal and the I terminal?
Thanks very much!

Gray is tach send signal
Brown or tan is warning system to horn
purple is 12V+ for accessories
Black is ground for accessories

That's the general rule

Not sure about terminals

Good luck

Thanks Angus. Perhaps I'll get a different ignition switch. Do you agree that the black goes to the other M terminal?

Black with yellow stripe is the kill circuit to shut off the motor. Black is 12V- for accessories.
Not sure what terminal the black goes to (if any!!). If memory serves me, I believe one of the M terminals is for the key switch off, and the other is for the lanyard kill switch???? I would verify before attempting!!

Re: Ignition help wiring OMC

Thanks everyone. I bought a new switch, same OEM as the original (which I should have done in the first place) and have all wires attached and the gauges wired in as well.
I'm wiring the kill switch as follows; one wire from C terminal of kill to B of ignition, other wire from second C terminal of kill to vertical M terminal of ignition. Does this sound correct? In otherwords, one wire to the red/blue stripe wire/terminal and the other to the black/yellow stripe terminal.

Angus, on the back of my new ignition switch packaging is a diagram, it shows the solid black wire to one of the M terminals. The other M is for the black/yellow stripe wire.
