Now that 5 Guys is now out on the West coast, there is some competition for In-N-Out Burgers. Personally for me, In-N-Out has them beat.

For those that have had each, what do you think?

Hands down In n Out!!
As a native Cali boy I can say 5is guys is good..but nowhere as good as my double double animal style!
They are in Dallas now and get there more than Cali and fill up on them AND bring bags home for the family!!!

Pure blasphemy!!! How can any place that servers dogs and veggie sandwiches compete with In-N-Out, the wholly grail of burgers???

We have a bunch of "burger" joints here; Fat Burger, Smash Burger and now 5 Guys...Why try second best? Even if a 5 Guys moves in down the block, I'm not going. :p

Kev, you should have had the infamous 4x4, and animal fries...... :D

what do you guys pay for one of those burgers any how?
$3 or so. I am on a diet so no In-N-Out for me for awhile. The shakes are amazing. I actually like the 5 guys fries better.

And another thing...they pay their employees a very good wage for a burger joint...$10/hour and they get paid vacation, 401k, benefits package.....

Wouldn't mind a few of those places up here in the cold country.

Five Guys is good but makes me instantly regret eating it. So greasy.

No IN-N-Out here in TN, so I haven't gotten to try them yet. Eating at 5 Guys is a "once in a while" proposition ... as EZ said, plus the price is a little stiff. Burgers are good, but not the best I've ever eaten. Fries are pretty outta' this world, but what to do with the other 5lbs of them they give you?

I am not a fan of in and out. I'd rather go to a single burger joint instead of a chain. I picked 5 guys because of their fries. The burgers at both places are "ok". If you're ever up in Nor Cal in Santa Rosa, try Brody's for great food, an interesting menu with Bison/Lamb burgers, other choices and house beers at $1 per pint. A town over in Cotati is Mike's at the Crossroads. Both are 10X better than anything you'll get at any chain spot.

The pics of the burgers look good. We don't have either of those burger joints around here. Can I send in a write in vote for a place called Fat Patty's? Good food with burgers the size of a dinner plate. LOL

Re: In-N-Out versus Five Guys ? who has the better burger?

No In-N-Out burgers on the east coast. 5 guys main competition here is Fuddruckers. I had a 5 guys burger for the first time about a month ago. It was good, but for the price I paid for a burger, fries, and drink, I was expecting more. IMHO Fuddruckers fries are better (I like my fries skinless), and they have really good shakes (something 5 guys doesn't offer).

But honestly, for my burger dollar I would rather go to one of several restaurants that offer gourmet burgers, or get some ground sirloin and make my own. We have a farm in the area that raises their own grass fed black Angus, and the ground sirloin that they sell will blow any of these places out of the water.

I find it hard to believe there are so many people willing to stuff their faces with fast food grease when we know the effects on long term health. No wonder American's are so fat.
They are fat because they don't know moderation and don't exercise. The double-double is 670 calories. Eat one every once and awhile but don't make it your normal staple and you are fine.

Haven't tried a Five Guys. In-N-Out is tasty and a good value, but I like Red Robin for a chain restaurant burger/fries and a cold one :D

5- Guys is way to expensive. Here 10 bucks for a burger and fries. Burger King 6 bucks burger, fries and free refills of soda if wanted.

No 5-Guys in my area (yet?). I'm an In-Out fan, but have to say I tried the new Smash Burgers and was impressed. Particularly like the onion strings.

It's not the calories, its what the calories are made of. ;)

Actually not true - a calorie is just a unit of energy, so a calorie is a calorie no matter where it comes from (that's why food energy is quantified with them). Eat fewer calories than you burn, and you cannot gain body mass; it's physically impossible.

All the cholesterol, sodium, and other stuff present in a burger - now that DOES make a difference. Doesn't make a good Five Guys every once in a while any less delicious though :D
