Re: Increasing Fuel Prices

If the fuel prices went up to $10/gal I still would boat but I live within my means I couldn't afford twin 350's so instead I have a nice 17' fiberglass with a 1985 50hp evinrude that sips gas and does everything I need.

Re: Increasing Fuel Prices

It will not affect my boating one bit. I will only be on the water for about three weeks this year, as that will be my only R&R during boating season. My wife still drives her 5.4 Expedition every day, and when in the states, I will drive my 5.0 Mustangs everywhere. The 5.8 in my boat will see plenty of WOT, and we will probably cover 250 miles pulling tubes with various kids/adults in them. As a matter of fact, we will be using that Expedition to pull the 31' travel trailer this year too! I refuse to let the idiots fuel speculators dictate my way of life. I spend 330+ days a year at the mercy of the Middle East and its never ending conflicts. I absolutely REFUSE to let them dictate how I spend my free time. I have fought too hard and too long to GET that freedom, and I will be damned if I let someone take it away from me. We plan around our vacation budget several months in advance, and allow for extra fuel expenses. My boat, and travel trailer are paid for, as are my Mustangs. (If I hadn't bought that new Expedition, we wouldn't have a car payment either, but it was time for a new tow vehicle anyway, and the wife had driven the mini-van for 7 years.) Gas may or may not hit $5/gallon this summer, but it will eventually. It's coming and there is nothing we can do to stop it. Hybrids are not the answer either. How many hybrid boats you see? Can you wake board (successfully) behind a canoe? The internal combustion engine is not going away anytime soon, and there are conversion kits already on the market to change over to propane, bio fuels, etc. Its not all doom and gloom. Just a bit of change we have seen coming for many years. I, for one, will not let it affect my fun with my family, and the memories that those days on the water make. And YOU should not either !

Re: Increasing Fuel Prices

QC makes a good point. Just about all of the countries on the graph, pay the same price for there fuel but the taxes just kill us.The taxes on the other hand are a necessary evil.

North of the border we gripe all of the time about how much we pay for fuel compared to what the price is south of us. QC's graph makes that point very well that we pay about the same price but its the tax that gets us.

Can anyone tell me how your country can get away with lower taxes?

Good work on that Graft QC. Just when our economy was showing signs of recovery... My little business has been decimated by the poor economy. So it is a double whammy for many of us. I go boating 3 days per week on average during the season. I already cut back on beer during the winter LOL. Good lord, a 24 pack of Coors light is $18 for 24. I imagine that will go up even further. A bag of chips is inching closer to $4.00. May have to finance one boating trip haha. Oh well the ole lady is b***** about too much boating anyway. Too much boating? Is there such a thing?

Back during the first fuel "crisis" in the '70s this was my rig. Boat used about a gallon a day, vehicle got 33mpg on Diesel.

LOL I remember the "odd" and "even" days and the gas lines going around the blocks. Wow that was a flashback!

2008 all over again. This is when my 4 stroke OB really pays off.... Yes, I'll be making less trips up to N Mn. Can't see spending $100 + in truck gas just to get there and back for a day trip....

Re: Increasing Fuel Prices

Some of the best times i have ever had has been out of a p-row. No gas and no gym membership needed! If ya want to get to know someone take them on the p-row with you its funny but true. I gm a machine shop and i try and get my new hands to go fishing with me i talk about my big bass boat but when they show up im ready to go with the p-row loaded up. When in the p-row it will tell ya a lot about someones personality. Sound a little wierd but its never let me down, the ones that give it effort nine out of ten times turn out to be hard workers. When a new hand shows up everyone ask him, have you got the vip fishing trip from the boss yet. This is a little off the gas subject but though i would share it.

....with the U.S having 10x the population and a tax base supporting a smaller country, well that does help for sure. ;)
We Canadians have always been challenged by supporting this big 'ol massive chunk of land coast to coast. Everybody wants a paved road, electricity, water, sewers....and, oh yeah...a rink and a Horton's. The cost of developing it and it's many needed and valuable resources is something that has yet still fully play out for us.
We need to post more 'help wanted' signs out there internationally to help 'work the farm'.:D;)

Re: Increasing Fuel Prices

That's one of the best ideas out there. Many states offer the same discount if the fuel is used in boats, off-road vehicles or farm equipment.:)

You DO NOT want to get caught with any of that in your motor vehicle tank. Don't even THINK about it.
