That is harsh. I understand the logic, if you don't have insurance and they let you drive home, you wreck on the way then it would of course be the cops fault for not protecting the driver from themselves.<br />BUT most people do have insurance, just not a card. Mine is usually on the counter by the back door for a month before it goes to the car. <br /><br />And yes it is easy to get a card. Insur a car for a week, then drop it. Or just get creative on a computer and print your own. That happens a lot.<br />The insurance companies need a database that will tie in with the DMV files. We can check those files for insurance, that way for people like me and 99% of others on the road that lose their cards they are safe.<br /><br />I usually write a ticket for no insurance. Give them their copy and a stamped envelope with my address. If they send me a copy of their insurance card within 5 days proving they were covered on the day of the ticket, I tear up the ticket. If I don't hear from them then the ticket goes to the courts.
