Where is it? I have drained both exhaust manifolds and the p and s block drains. Thanks.

I must have clicked the wrong button (again) because I posted this hours ago.

One more try.

Thanks Don!! Now my next question, I figured that was it. It had never been taken off by my reckoning, there were no marks on it whatsoever, the paint on it was intact, when I did remove it, no water came out, is that normal?? Quite a bit of water came out of all the other drains.

I don't know, all the 4.3's Volvo's I dealt with were fresh water cooled.

Did you probe the opening, sometimes drains get blocked with rust particles and then don't drain. The older 4.3s like mine don't have that drain...I'd take it out again and poke a stiff wire up in there to make sure...put a little grease on the threads of the drain plugs, makes em come out easy next time.....

Re: Intake drain plug 4.3 GLPEFS 2001

I'm going back up tomorrow to take another look at it as well as wrapping her up nice and snug for the winter. I wasn't able to get the drain plug out for the outdrive, it was pretty chewed up from previous attempts. So I didn't service it yet, it will be going to the local VP tech in Honey Harbour for a new plug, I didn't want to really screw it up so I'll leave that to him. I'll change the gear oil and pull the drive off to grease the gimbal bearing and u-joints in the spring. The gear oil looked fine, it wasn't milky so that's good. Another thing, I sucked out 5.5 liters of engine oil, it only calls for 4.3 liters with a filter change. The last oil change was done shoddily, thankfully nothing blew up. Funny though, it never did register high on the dipstick. Along with the intact intake manifold plug I strongly suspect that previous maintenance hasn't been that great. We will see when I pull off the drive what I find in there. Just goes to show, if you want it done properly, do it yourself or find someone you can really trust. I'll post more tomorrow night after I finish up in the engine bay.

Re: Intake drain plug 4.3 GLPEFS 2001

I was back up yesterday and I took out the intake manifold plug, stuck a wire in but no water came out, even when I tilted the boat bow down. So I figure I got the water out when I took the big hose off the circulation pump. Actually to be sure, I pulled all the hoses off the front of the engine. It is definitely not a fun place for the drain to be, it's tough to get to and takes a while to take out. the easy way would be to remove the Thermostat housing for better access. Anyways, I sprayed it down with the Engine Storage spray/fogging oil that I bought and it leaves an almost waxy like coating so she is hibernating for the winter, I also changed the positive lug on the battery cable since it was pretty beat up. So my work for the spring is to get the drain plug replaced on the leg and to service the leg, gimbal and u joints and also to repaint the leg, there is quite a bit of corrosion on it so I'm going to have to do pretty much the whole thing. It'll be a 2-3 evening job that's for sure. Don, once again, thank you for your help, I'd buy you a beer if you were closer.

Had a little water come out of that plug last year but this fall I had none. I pulled it out as soon as I took the boat out of the water last year though. This year I drained the block and pulled all the hoses then realized a few days later I forgot to take that plug out. When I did nothing came out, not worried about it.
