Re: Is it just me?
I'm a new guy here on iboats. I stumbled onto the forum several weeks ago while looking for help with a wiring problem and found a great resourse and some really knowledgable people. So far I've seen the usual range of personalities you encounter on forums, you have your pro's, you have your smartasses, you got your guys who just want it fixed for free, etc... I'm amazed by the amount of people who post here that have no mechanical knoweldge or nautical knoweldge and expect someone on here to fix their problem. I'm 41 now and I look at the younger guys of the nintendo era and wonder how the hell they manage to do anything. If it's not compleatly spelled out for them they are lost and panic and some seam really ungrateful when they do get help. I think the next generation is lazy and expects everyone else to do everything for them. What ever happend to common sense and fixing your own stuff? I'm a disabled vet and have allot of time on my hands which is why you guys have seen me posting here allot. I also have allot of experiance with marine stuff (15 year naval vet as an engineering rating) so after finding this forum I figured I'd stick around and help when I could since I recieved help here and I enjoy it. One thing some posters forget is that this is a public forum, not a marine service shop and they forget that the answers they get are based on other peoples experiances (with the exception of a few actual marine mech's) so expect a quick turnaround and an expert answer to their questions. They also forget that nobody here is obligated to answer anything if they don't want to
For myself, I comment only on stuff I actually have any experiance with or training on, you wont see me, for example, giving advice on I/O since I've never owned one, but I will, for example, comment of common sense stuff like fuel lines and filters evan if they are on an I/O boat. If someone want's to flame, I ignore them and I try to act like a stand up guy and appreciate the same in return. I really appreciate all the people on this forum, there is a ton of great knoweldge and experiance here and forum's like these are a great help to boaters everywhere. I say treat everyone with respect and ignore the one's who want be @$$ holes
