Re: Is this true?

I'm suprised there hasn't been lawsuits filed againt beer and liquor manufacturer's by drunk drivers, like there have been lawsuits by cancer victims against big tobacco.

Re: Is this true?

I love drinking a whole bottle of Jack Daniels, and a case and a half of longnecks, and then get into my car and drive as fast as I possibly can.

I never stop for traffic lights or stop signs!

If someone is walking in the street, I run them over, their not suppose to walk in the street anyway!!

And when the cops turn on them pretty red lights, well let me tell you, thats when the fun begins!

Nothing better than a high speed chase at 3AM, but yet, them cops ain't never been able to catch me, seems they always chicken out, especially when I take the railroad tracks, you'd be suprised how much time you can save by taking the tracks!

Ain't never been arested for DWI, DUI or whatever they call it these days, and they never will catch me, I'm just too good for them!

And I ain't never had an accident...ever!

I just don't see them either, but then again, its hard to tell if a car has damage when doing 105 MPH as you pass!

I think this DWI, DUI thing is getting caried away, with all these groups like MADD and NAADTI or whatever, and all the rest, for who without, the above statement would be more the truth, than fiction!

But until they come up with something I'll continue to do things the old fashion way. Follow the drunk a$$ home and beat him like a red-headed stepchild. Needless to say I have no tolerance for this matter

Re: Is this true?

I agree with many of the points made here. I like
to have a few beers now and then, but don't drive
after I do. also agree that they don't really
enforce the laws the way they should or the laws
should be more strict?

but lets face facts... if some idiot wants to
drink and drive he will. how many of these drunks
still drive even though their lic. has been taken
away? vehicular manslaughter DOES carry a stiff
punishment, including jail time, but if they don't
get off the sauce permanantly, they'll be driving
drunk again when they get outa jail, lic. or not.

all of that said, I firmly believe that it's not
the govt's job to be MY big brother and make me
safe. with freedom comes danger period! I choose
freedom. 1 by 1, little by little our freedoms
are being taken away and if we as a people don't
wake up and stand up, pretty soon we will not
have any freedoms at all! if we are not willing
to pay the price to have a free and open society
then we don't deserve it!
quoted many times here:
those who would surrender freedom for security
deserve niether! AMEN!!!!

lots of people are needlessly killed by drunk
drivers, very true... but lots of people are
killed with handguns, riding motorcycles/snowmobiles/ATV's/boats etc.
these freedoms are gonna be next gang!
how would you feel if they passed laws to make
our toys "safe" (really slow). so much for hitting
the trail on your sled and doing 60mph. sorry,
that's just too dangerous.

here's a novel idea;
how about we start to teach the next generation
to be responsible? responsible citezens don't
drive drunk or drive their boat recklessly.
maybe it's just easier to let the govt. do it for
us, but it's just not right IMO!

sorry, ranting here... but freedom is something
I am very passionate about.
M.Y.

Re: Is this true?

tylerin,

Although I agree with you, that I too wouldn't get involved with an organization like MADD, you have to admitt that they have been instumental in getting alot of the drinking and driving laws passed that are on the books today, and protect alot of people from DUI, but their capabilities are limited, because some people still just don't get it...

Drinking and driving usually equals DEATH FOR SOMEONE , and unfortunatly, that is only in the hands of the drunk who decides to drive while drunk, and nothing can protect anyone from it!!!

How sad.

Long live the Designated Driver !

Re: Is this true?

then let's make these parents responsible for
their kids until they turn 18. reparations?

we can either have freedom or security.
not BOTH.

in My house freedom is earned by showing responsiblity.
if my 3 kids show a lack of responsibility, then
their freedoms are lost. not rocket science

Totally agree, that's how it is in my house with my two boys. I do think we are in the minority though.

Re: Is this true?

a better education system might be a start.
maybe a ciriculum that included this subject even?
I don't profess to have all the answers, but I
would much rather work towards a society that is
truly respnsible then to just give up and let
the govt. pass laws on behavior because of a few
idiots out there.

Re: Is this true?

GuageGuy, THere are several suits pending against Miller and Budweiser, for advertising to minors, and causing a 18 yearold to drink, drive, and die in a car crash.

Drinking and driving usually equals DEATH FOR SOMEONE
You obviously don't know how many people drink and drive.

Haven't you ever been to a ball game , where over half the crowd has had "a few"? And then drove home?

On any given weekend where I grew up, there were a minimum of 75,000 drunk drivers. Probably 300,000 in the state. And very few of them ever get caught or in a serious accident.

I'm not condoning it, but its the facts.

Take for example a typical summer weekend in Milw.
90,000 people attending the ballgame plus tailgating and after game drinking. Then add the patrons from the 1400+ bars in the metro area.

Now, times have changed in the last 20 years, 1/2 of the bars are closed, and 2/3 of the rest are dead. Alcohol consumption is way down.

But its still the same dumb few that are causing the problems.
To further complicate the matter, all the accidents that are caused by drug users, are lumped under the "under the influence" generic charge.

Back to the original issue.
This device will not stop the carnage we are all complaining about. But it will erode our freedoms.
It will severely block the road to economic freedom of millions of low income people.
And it will all be done with "good intentions".

Re: Is this true?

I don't know how I survived past about age 25 - I can't remember how many times I drove home so drunk I couldn't even remember leaving the party. Ever been awakened by the sound of a speed zone sign hitting your front bumper? I cut that crap out sometime during my mid twenties. Didn't give up drinking, I just haven't been drunk in maybe 15 years.

A couple years into our twenty-six year marriage, the wife & I made a pact: if one of us found ourselves in a situation where we were too drunk to drive, we could call the other who would come and collect the drunk one, no questions asked. We each only did it a couple times, but I highly recommend it. If you were up to no good, at least you would only have to drive as far as the nearest respectable establishment.

My wife's crack-head step-sister, until three years ago when she was shot in the head and killed by one of the two men she was living with at the time, was married to an abusive alcoholic loser, and four years ago we successfully petitioned the court for custody of their two youngest daughters, age 8 & 10. One of the girls was very critical of me for having beer in the refrigerator. Mrs. jtexas spoke to her about being disrepectful to grownups, and how I used alcohol responsibly and she never saw me drunk, etc. I asked if it made her feel frightened for me to keep beer in the house. She just nodded. That's why I won't be able to offer you a beer when you come over. I still haven't given it up, just scaled way back. I have to say, it is really amusing to be sober at a party where everyone else is drinking. I never saw my parents take a drop of alcohol, might have done better in my youth if they'd modeled responsible use. Maybe not, we'll never know.

And I don't who came up with the concept of "legal limit." That's crap. One is too many.

Re: Is this true?

about ten weeks ago in the next town two girls in their early 20's, best friends, driving on a side road. Crash into a pole passenger pronounced dead.

Driver of the car was driving on a suspended license for a previous drunk driving citation within 30 days.

People were asking "how could she still have her license" When they write you up you are issued a tempoary for so many days until you go to court. If they had taken her license then maybe her friend would still be alive

Re: Is this true?

now this is certainly a person who should be
forever required to have an alchohol test unit!
even better a felon GPS unit that monitors any
irratic driving behavior. put the responsibility
where it belongs!
