Just bought a 88 Starcraft Islander 22

[chocolatehauler]

the engine I should be able to handle but out drive is another thing never worked on one where do I start Maintanence wise. Any help steering me in the right direction would be gladly excepted.

I would jump over to the Mercruiser section in the Forums - there are a couple of sage regulars who will immediately chime in!!

Plus - noone here will beleive you have a boat unless you post pictures!!

Boat? Yea pictures are mandatory, unless you can put up with constant harassment from the horde here. Photobucket works for me, I like it.

What motor and drive (and year) do you have.
Manuals are readily available and I'll post a link when we know what you have.

Simple things such as changing the impeller, lower unit oil and such are fairly easy.
If I can do it, well that says a lot

It has a 2.3 ford OMC I/O please tell me it's not and anchor. Hope two get a few more years out of it with some TLC.

Welcome to the Tin Hideout, CH. She looks nice and clean. You can eat off the engine. You are going to have some tell you the OMC is an anchor, but it's too late now you bought her. How does she run? Have fun and more pics please.

Don't know yet if it runs. Was told it does. pulled it in the garage and took the shrink wrap off and it looks great. Next need to test everything. these random Questions are getting harder. Is this jepordy?

Ok..
There are plenty of OMC gearheads in that section to help with repairs.
few things are the same.
Always run the motor on mufflers..
No water equals a burnt waterpump and ugly stuff.

Wait for Final Jeopardy. Its the splash! I see the pics fine, CH. Got any pics of the inside? The Starmada likes pics, dial-up is slow to load them. Like said above, make sure you run on muffs or in a barrel. You don't want to overheat the engine.

Very very nice hull. Congrats. That is a pretty crappy drivetrain though. Obsolete and also sure to be a real pig. I've been on a similar Islander that was only 19' with the Merc 3.0 and that one was a bit slow to plane. Fine once it was going though.

ignore all these speed freaks and enjoy your boat. at some point, you may want to replace the drivetrain but for now, it looks decent. beautiful boat overall. and welcome to the mob. where is Harbor springs?
