I will check the ball and spring in the A.M. I have heard that some controls are dangerous to take apart because of parts that may fall out, is this one difficult? And do I have to take the top armrest off too, because the screws are all stripped out on that.

Just be CAREFUL. Put something under it to make sure you catch any parts. Yes, the top pad needs to come off.

By the way, a later model control box will work just fine with that engine.

Update***I took the remote control apart and saw that the cam was binding just before neutral, so I was extrememly careful because everyone told me that pieces might fly out. Well...the bearing (shift detent) flew out and is now missing. They are some grooves on shift cam, but after greasing it up real good it moves past zero. I will have to wait till I get a new bearing to see if it will actually work though. Thanks to all that has helped me so far and I will update post on Monday if I find a bearing.

***Motor up and running!!!*** Today I put the handle back together w/o the detent ball just to see the control movement and it moves to all positions with ease. I still need to buy the ball and install it, but the motor runs great and shifts forward, neutral and reverse! Thanks to those who have helped, Sean (Onercboater), damian, DJ, Bob and Silvertip.

Awesome!!

So no more holding the warm up bar down? I wonder why the ball and spring where not working correctly.

Anyway good to here your back on the water and the ball/spring shouldn't be that much money.
