I can't get my throttle linkage in sync. It seems that the spark advance does not return to the slow/idle/start position when I pull the throttle back to neutral when I crank the engine the engines "revs" wide open so I have to kill the engine. I have tried adjusting the throttle cable and the shift cable, I have the throttle cable screwed in as far as it will go in an attempt to pull the throttle arm back so the spark advance will stay in slow speed. I have adjusted the cam lever where the carburetor rides the cam . the cam is in start position and the carb rider wheel is barely touching the cam, but there is still a lot of movement in the spark advance lever. I place a spring on the lower end of lower end of the throttle advance lever where the throttle cable connects and stretched it to the b carb cover in an effort to hole the lever forward as far as possible to take out any movement in the spark advance lever. this kind of works but it makes it really hard to move throttle forward at the control box. I am sure I am missing something any help would be appreciated .

the throttle advance lever on lots of models has a big spring behind it, undo the nut and you may find it broken, id get rid of that spring youre using.
take a video if you are still stuck so we can see whats going on

Sounds like the butterfly valves are sticking open. They should be fully closed when starting the engine. Work with the linkage that operates the valves, keeping the linkage high enough on the valve shafts so that there is no binding. The butterfly valves should slam shut in unison. Then there is a mark on the cam that operates the valves. Make sure the cam follower is aligned with the mark and that the stop screw on the throttle arm that sets the cam follower is hard against the stop. Put the idle screw in the mid position. Set the throttle cable to that position and time the engine.

the butterflies are working normal, I think the problem may be in the throttle cable it has over an inch of plat when throttle is pulled back to neutral the lower arm on the throttle lever where the cable attaches can be pulled forward another inch or inch and a half I don't think that is correct it allows the spark advance to remain to for forward and makes the engine race. any thoughts

got a new set of cables coming tomorrow and I hope that fixes the problem as for the spark advance lever , it still has pressure from the spring behind the bolt it will spring forward if pulled back and released the spring looks good I will check that before I put the new cables on just in case. thanks

Set the idle and WOT position movements with the throttle cables disconnected. Move it my hand thru the complete range of movement to be sure it's ok. Then adjust the throttle cable turn wheel so that the cable matches the hand movement.
