Lonely Moments as a kid.....

When I was playing little league I HATED being up at bat, with two out, last inning and my team is down. Granted, it felt great when I got a hit, or run and kept us going.....but that moment when you swing and miss for strike three...and the game ends...and your team loses is DREADFUL. Makes you feel really tiny and really alone.

Anyone else have moments like that?

Sun Runner, it sounds like you played for the Mets.

lol......not that bad.....when we were in the running for the title we never choked....lol. I benefited from being on a team that had really really good hitters and pitchers....my strength was in being the best first baseman in the league....average hitter though. What prompted me to write this thread was the thread about coach's son syndrome. I see kids going through that moment of let down a lot in sports and all parents or coaches can do is yell at them or belittle them. I had a couple of those "isolation moments" and I know it sucks....luckily for me my parents were supportive and really didn't get on my case. Mainly because I always tried my best.

Re: Lonely Moments as a kid.....

This summer my son played on a travelling team (11 y/o) for the same coach he had last year. I have no problems with the coach in general as he knows his stuff better than anyone I know. However, the coach has an older son that is apparently quite good. The younger son, on my sons team, I think is a disappointment. When he plays he is constantly looking to his dad and the looking even affects the playing. While I think his dad is good and loving, as is sometimes absent, I think he plays literally looking over his shoulder for approval. In this case he would probably develop better playing for someone other than his father.

We had a kid on my small fry football team that intercepted a pass and ran the wrong way giving the other team a touchdown. We all felt bad for the kid because he felt he let us down.

I always tell my son if you swing at strikes and pass on the balls, then no one can say anything about your performance.

Anyone who complains can go do it themselves next time.
