Re: Looking for a 'new' boat . . . Success !!!

Update -

The Seller has finished replacing the manifolds on the engines. So, I'll be heading the NH to check things out on Tuesday, then we'll do the paperwork and I'll be a boat owner again. :D

A buddy of mine has called me a couple of times, as he has seen a couple of Formula 330's around his waters. He keeps telling me "that's a big boat". I think that I will have to adjust to the fuel consumption.

I was going to trailer the boat, but I have decided to just have the boat brought to my house and put on blocks/stands for now. I need to do some prep work on the hull, outdrives and engines, before it goes into the salt water. So, that will be easier to do on stands rather than a trailer. :)

I'll post some more pictures as things proceed.

So you're going to have a transporter use their trailer? I contacted a NJ transporter who wanted $1,000 more than transport costs to use his trailer :(

Congrats on getting it D O N E. Way too much stress, huh? ;)

Yes, I had some quotes of people using their own trailers, and they were not too bad. Of course, to off load the boat to blocks/stands, a special hydraulic trailer may be needed, and that may put the price up. We shall see.

Deal won't be done until we 'pass papers' on Tuesday . . . then the transportation games begin.

My Co-worker used U ship around mid summer- he found a mint 24ft Bayliner Bowrider in Arizona on it's own trailer.

Remember you are only paying them to move it 170 miles- not your problem for them to go and get it, for a short trip like that they should be able to combine it with another local move.

I think he spent 1,800 or so for that move, AZ to NJ.

Re: Looking for a 'new' boat . . . Success !!!

It seems like on the east coast prices are a bit higher for transportation. The fact that I am looking to have the boat off-loaded onto blocks also adds some cost.

Anyway, today is the official 'purchase' day. :D I am heading to Lake Winnipesaukee first thing this morning and will give the new manifolds an inspection before handing over the check to the seller. Then the boat will be mine (oh joy) and I can start going through the list of things to prep it for next season.

I hope to get a boat hauler to bring the boat to its new home on Cape Cod next week. We will see if I can line someone up to do that.

I did get some boat stands over the weekend, and hopefully, today I will get some 8 x 8 blocks

The deal is DONE. . . So, I am now the owner of a Formula 330 Sun Sport :) :D

I met with the seller today and checked out the new manifolds, etc. Looked OK, so we inked the deal, gave him the money, etc. So, now I am the owner of the boat.

Still trying to line up some transportation companies, etc. Ideally, I'd like to have it brought to its new home next week.

I got some 6 x 6 timbers and cut them up into blocks . . . So, now I have blocks and stands for the 'new' boat.

Congrats! I'm guessing you didn't take her for a celebratory cruise?

Any bites on the haulers? When you watch Shipping Wars it seems so quick and easy ;)

Yup, I got a note from Chris, as he was curious if I got the 330SS (I did). Anyway, I wished him well on having sold his boat. $25 is OK money considering the blisters.

My boat search is done, the transportation search begins.

I am all set for a transport of the boat this coming Tuesday :D . A buddy of mine hooked me up with the boat hauler that he uses, and his pricing was a lot better than anything else I have received.

I'll post picture of the day . . . I hope it all goes smoothly  .

Very cool, I like that you have referrals. Too bad you won't be on "Shipping Wars".

I picked up my trailer today and will be towing mine home tomorrow :)

Great looking boat, Looks to be well taken care of. And as far as the pink/teal - Don't take this the wrong way but I love it for the 80's vibe - I really like it and would not change a thing. I am not saying it looks like an 80's boat but has a "hint" of it. (Miami vice) - Keep the pics comming and congrats.

Thanks for your comments . . .

Yes, it is the Formula "Palm Beach" color scheme. It came into being in the mid-1980s and faded out in the mid-1990's. They used 3 colors - Blue, Teal, Magenta (aka pink). There were 3 variations, with the top color being any one of the 3 colors.

My preference would be to have the blue as the top color, second choice would be the teal. The boat itself was in great shape, so I figured that I could deal with a color change if needed (as in - if my buddies at the town dock laughed too much about it  )

The later 1990 - 2000's models that I looked at mostly had the beige/gray color scheme, which I disliked even more than the pink. What ever happened to basic blue and red ???

Congratulations on the buy! I'll be interested in hearing how the transport went. I've never owned a boat that big, let alone tried to get her moved. Is "fair winds" appropriate for an over the road trip? ;)

Thank you all for your well wishes along the way. Tomorrow is the big day. . .

The weather in New England ( NH, MA) looks good for tomorrow, so hopefully everything will go OK. I plan to get there a couple hours ahead of the transport guy, so I can secure everything. It is probably a 4 hour haul to my house on Cape Cod.

I did some measuring this weekend to see where the boat would best fit in the driveway area. I have 2 possible spots . . . One very slightly pitched to aft and another closer to the garage that is more level. I'm thinking slightly pitched is more better, but I'll let the hauler decide . . . He does this sort of thing every day.

UPDATE -

The Boat is now at its new home . . . the transport went well . . . I now have the boat in my driveway so I can prep it for next season, etc.

I plan on taking a few days to go through it and become familiar with 'big boat' stuff.

Here are a few pictures of the day and also a video that I put together.

Lots to go through and prepare for next year. . . Up until now it did not seem 'real' that I had bought a new-to-me boat . . . now that it is in the driveway, it is real. :D

Thanks guys for your kind words. . .

I got the 'brown stain' off the hull this morning . . . I use some stuff called "Iron Out" that you can get at hardware stores.

Here is a picture of the boat cleaned up.

My last boat was bottom painted, and I decided to strip the paint off before repainting . . . (no fun) . . . So, I am glad that this one is not painted . . . except for the fact that it has some early stage blisters to deal with

Re: Looking for a 'new' boat . . . Success !!!

I got the shore power hooked up, so I can run the electrical stuff and keep the batteries charged, etc.

Now, if I can just figure out how to turn on the stereo  . . . I flip the main power on, the batteries, etc, and flip the stereo switch at the main panel, etc. but I cannot get the stereo to power up. It is a Kenwood and one of those kind that conceal the faceplate when it is not powered up. I listened to it during the sea trial . .. but there must be a trick to turning it on . . .

Help !?! Anyone ?!?!?
