Thanks guys for your kind words. . .

I got the 'brown stain' off the hull this morning . . . I use some stuff called "Iron Out" that you can get at hardware stores.

Here is a picture of the boat cleaned up.

My last boat was bottom painted, and I decided to strip the paint off before repainting . . . (no fun) . . . So, I am glad that this one is not painted . . . except for the fact that it has some early stage blisters to deal with

Ayuh,.... Sweet lookin' barge there Ted,... really nice score.... ;)

Thanks, Bond-o . . . It is a bit bigger than planned, but probably the cure for 2-foot-itis.

I am gonna have to study up on winterizing and fogging an MPI engine. They sure start nice . . . better than my former carbed 454.

Re: Looking for a 'new' boat . . . Success !!!

I ordered 2 fresh water cooling kits today, which will take about 10 days to arrive. I got the FULL system that cools the blocks and manifolds. So, this should give the engines some longevity.

Another neat feature about the engines is that the exhaust elbows are stainless steel. So, by putting in a full FWC system, I separate the water flow from the iron manifolds, versus the stainless steel elbow. The coolant running through the manifolds should give them longevity, and the salt water running through the SS elbows should not be a problem, either.

I am also toying with some graphic software to see if I can come up with a color scheme modification to make the 'pink' stripes more subdued, as in a background color rather than the top color.

I'll post some pictures in a new thread to get some feedback on the designs.

Thanks, Jim . . .

The boat will stay where it is for the winter, unless we get a hurricane or something like that, then it will probably wind up in the neighbor's yard. I plan on building a frame out of strapping and securing a tarp over it. Winters on Cape Cod are usually not as harsh as the rest of New England. So, hopefully, it will not be too bad.

Update -

I had a couple of days off this week and managed to go through the boat and start to familiarize myself with things. I DID manage to get the stereo to power up, as I found the owner's manual. There is a full, big binder of all the owner's manuals and schematics for the various systems on the boat. So, I guess I'll have some good reading over the winter.

I have a fairly long list of things to check and/or fix. . . and it keeps growing !!! A couple of new things to add from this past weekend.

- The swim plaform seems to have some internal delamination going on as I noticed a 'squishy' noise coming from it as I continually boarded and departed over the past few days. The view from underneath looks OK, so I am thinking I will have to drill some exploratory holes to see if it is wet or just delamination. My sailboat had a similar thing happen to the foredeck, which I was able to fix fairly well.

- Stereo speakers seem to be cutting in and out, and the wiring seems OK . . . so maybe it is going to need a new set of speakers.

- The anchor locker is in need of some fiberglass work, as it has a hole punched in it (probably from the anchor) and it does not mate with the deck. There is about a 2" gap by 'design'. so, I think that I will re-engineer this and make it water tight.

Then there is the list of 'normal' stuff from the surveyor's report that will keep me busy.

I'll post some pics this weekend. :)

Sounds like you have the right attitude for the repairs. I'm having trouble with my speakers too, one side works, the other doesn't :(

Did you abandon the trailer search for now?

Yes, no trailer . . . I'm gonna try it with boat haulers for a year or so and see how that works out.

With a 16 year old boat, you tend to run into things that have been bastardized over the years, not fixed correctly, etc.

An example is that the gate leading to the swim platform had fallen off. It needed a weld, but I was able to fix it with a screw. However, there is an electrical lockout switch that prevents you from raising the engine hatch unless the gate is opened. That wiring had been cut and shorted together so that the engine hatch would raise regardless of the gate's position. Soooo, I had to fix that too. I'm sure that I will find some more of that wonkiness as I go through the plumbing and electrical systems further.

The good thing is that I hopefully will know that everything works and how it works. . . always helpful when something breaks.

Just beautiful, Ted. I love the way most modern radar arches are integrated into the design these days, but there's something about those clean lines and profile of yours. I wouldn't want to mess w/ that. Best of luck !!!

Yes, I did want to get a radar arch . . . but the rest of the crew are sun worshipers . . . and God forbid if there is something blocking the sun. So, it is better as is with just the bimini, which has taken down for the transportation.

Here are some update photos of my winter storage set up . . .

I made an A-frame and ridge board . . . then used a couple of tarps to cover it. I think I will get a single large tarp for next year.

I tried to get the pitch fairly high, so it would readily shed the rain & snow. I'm going to visit my boat tomorrow to see how the tarp and frame are holding up.

Re: Looking for a 'new' boat . . . Success !!!

I got home from work early yesterday and must have been bored, as I wanted to compare the 'old' boat versus the 'new' boat. So, I scoured my hard drive for a profile photo of the F-242 and super-imposed it on the F-330; scaling it accordingly, etc.

Here is the difference . . . kind of amazing seeing in photograph form.

I added a page to my web site called "7-Foot-itis" . . .

Re: Looking for a 'new' boat . . .

A Quick Update -

Since the boat buying season will soon be in high gear, I thought that I would post an update on the boats that I had on my "Short List" from last year . . .

I reviewed my list of boats from last summer, and MOST of the boats that I was considering last year, are still on the market

Of the Formula 280SS in the Northeast USA - I had 11 on my list . . . 8 are still listed, so 3 out of 11 sold.

Of the Formula 330SS in the Northeast USA - I had 10 on my list . . . 7 are still listed, so 3 out of 10 sold (including the one I bought).

I know that there may be one or two that are listed, but perhaps sold, but probably not . . . It is kind of amazing to think that only about 30% of this sample of boats sold in about 8 -12 months time. The boats that sold were all in the lower price range of the boats offered, and they were all at or below NADA or BUC estimated value.

These are bigger boats than perhaps the 'average' boat, but it is sort of interesting to note if you are buying or selling . . .

Sounds like it's Still a Buyer's market....

Re: Looking for a 'new' boat . . .

It may be more of a situation of sellers asking for too much $$$$$ (like 30-50% more than they were worth) . . . it would take a booming economy to absorb some of these boats at the higher prices.
