There are many, but what do you have 20", 25", 30", counter rotating??? Model Number will help.

Re: Lower Unit Compatibility

started out as: spin prop, hear a slight "growl", then started to "pop" while under way, pulled it home, drained the lube, had water in it, and numerous shavings on the plug. also noticed play in the prop shaft, not in and out, but up and down, shaft seems to have a noticable wobble to it.

Re: Lower Unit Compatibility

The salvage yards have many that will fit. Ask for 20" with warranty. Make sure of the prop shaft, should be 13 spline 1-1/4" 435477 or 435475, but check yours to be sure. Shop it hard, times are tough.

Good, there are plenty of the large cases too, all of the commercial models had them - just be sure to take a prop and count the grooves, or count the splines. The driveshaft and the shift rods will be the same, but you don't want to be buying new propellers too.

OK here is the way you check. Go to the parts catalog and look up your model, Then go to the gearcase diagram for your motor and see what they show for the gearcase assembly for the model number that you gave. Then you take the gearcase assembly part number and you find the replacement.

Any reputable salvage yard will know what will fit, you just have to be specific about the propeller shaft and the length of the driveshaft.

Re: Lower Unit Compatibility

I believe any V6 gearcase from 1979 on will work. Hopefully someone will be able to verify this. A V6 60 degree gearcase shift shaft will have a different bend but you can unscrew it and use the shift shaft from your 1994 gearcase.

There will be V4's and V8's that will be able to bolt up, but due to the different gear ratios, a new prop will be in order. There is also a V4 gearcase that is larger and uses a V6 prop shaft with a 12/27 ratio, yet I dont believe I have personally ever seen one. Not to say they arent out there though.

The new style V6 gearcases use a 2 piece driveshaft that will seem loose to you, especially with the water pump off. It's supposed to be that way yet Im not sure if your year would have this feature, one of the pros will know for sure.

Re: Lower Unit Compatibility

It should fit. You may need to switch the shift rods and then readjust the height of the shift rod.

Re: Lower Unit Compatibility

Why do you want to get the driveshaft out? It requires disassembly.

Re: Lower Unit Compatibility

the new lower unit only comes with the lower shaft, i am suposed to remove mine, and "snap" it into the lower shaft.
