Re: Merc 350/260 HP No Spark?

the t-bolt system is pretty bulletproof, i have never had any issues with it EXCEPT some of the early style ones that use the large black 6"x6"x2" box igniton module that mounts on the riser elbow

once i had an issue similar to yours but the rpm's would falter under a load at about 3000, all new parts in the system aside from the module (which was getting extremely hot) - replaced module, good to go

other issue i have noticed is that with the new style ignition sensors, idle timing will jump 4 degrees unless you have the idle speed as low as you can get it

the test in the manual for the module is for a NO SPARK condition, you obvously have spark and if your merc certified tech is confident that its the module i would believe it

if you are considering a new system, there are many choices out there - they are all pretty much the same - but seeing as how you already have all the new parts for the t-bolt system, why not just upgrade it with a new ignition module??

may be cheaper than a whole new igniton system

Re: Merc 350/260 HP No Spark?

Dubs i do have the 6x6x2 box and it is all inclosed with no plug for the wires. The wires come straight out of the box (Sealed) to the coil and dist.
Have been Researching the last few day's for replacement module and a new system.
New module around $400 to $600
Used Module around $250 to $400
New system $300 to $1000

I did not want to go used it might last forever or 2 days?
New Module could be ok but i may have some other issue?

I went with the Mallory M9-26000 set up that has the Dist,Coil. and Wires for $365.00 off E-BAY
Called a Mallory tech and talked to him (Very Helpfull) said it was a plug and play system. He advised me to use a balist resitor with the system. He also stated with this system you could change the advance curve if i did any other mods to the motor.

Should recieve by Thursday. :)

Will update with results. Thanks again for all the help.

Re: Merc 350/260 HP No Spark?

Update #2: Recieved my package on thursday. Well go figure its raining again! Dam what a spring we are having.
Stoped raining!
Now to the task, Remove old system and install new system. Now the solenoid goes out. Dammit again.
Go pick up a new solenoid and install. Try starting the motor. Nothing Dam!
Ok back up and punt! Reread the install directions, you must follow all instructions.

1. TDC on comp stroke on #1 cyl and timing marks at 8 deg BTDC

2. Take cap off dist and rotate rotor untill the pickup pointer is pointing at pickup were you want number 1 to fire. (This can be anywere you want, i made it #1 to point at or around the coil location) now mark your dist housing with the location of #1. Now place cap back on and mark number #1 on the cap.

3. Now drop dist in motor with mark on body pointing in the direction of the coil. May have to rotate the oil pump shaft to get the dist to seat. (Long screw driver) Then tighten down hold down, just enough to hold and be able to turn the dist body.

4. Install plug wires starting with number #1. Then your proper order for your motor.

5. Hook up Dist wires to coil and ground as per instructions. I added the Balist resistor per Mallory tech. Hook up Green/White shift intruptor to Neg side of coil. He also said do not have anything hooked up to your ignition switch other then itself. It will draw volts from the system to power what you have hooked up.

6. Pump throtle twice and boat firerd right up. Set timming at 8 deg BTDC and tighten dist hold down. Double check everything and all is good

Took boat out over the weekend and it ran like a fine tuned sewing mach.

All in all i am happy with the results, a bit pricy but was worth it

Again thanks to all the folks that helped me out with this! Happy Boating :)
