mercruiser 4.1 I6 Stalls, wont restart

I have a mercruiser 4.1 165 that starts fine and runs great until i get it on the water and run it for a bit. Then it will quit and won't start again. I get towed back to dock, load it up and go home. hook up the water hose to it, and it starts right up again. Carb was rebuilt, but it does the same thing. Took the boat out 4 times last summer, got towed back 3 times. I like the boat, its a 76 searay SRV193.

When it dies, do you have spark after it dies? Is there fuel to the carb? Does the engine turn over or is the starter not working?

Yes, there is spark, it (sometimes) attempts to fire. I assume there is fuel to the carb, as sometimes i can smell gas. It seems to turn over just the same as when it starts. I haven't done too much work to it, took it to the mechanic here and got the carb rebuilt.
