2007 3.0L Alpha One, Gen II. Took out starter, but solenoid seems to be attached to engine block. Cannot see screws to remove.

See picture attached

Any ideas?

Looks to me like you took the starter apart, instead of taking it off.

Feel underneath, and see if there's a couple of bolts running vertically. Take them out and the rest of the starter will come off.

You really need to download the manual before proceding any further.Attempts at guessing how to do repairs will get very expensive. There in the Adults Only section.

Re: Mercruiser - How to remove Starter Solenoid

Starter is bolted directly to engine with two bolts. Solenoid is also bolted directly to engine. The only connection between the two is a shot electrical wire from the starter to the solenoid. I just cannot see how to remove the solenoid from the engine. I have looked around the entire solenoid with an inspection mirror and flashlight, still no obvious sign of where it is bolted to the engine.

Might there be a relay that is not allowing the solenoid to engage rather than the solenoid itself?

I will download the manual as suggested as well.

Thanks.

As you can see from the pictures below, as the others have stated, you simply disassembled the starter. It comes off as a complete unit with the two bolts underneath the entire starter.

Ahh - got it now. Downloaded manual and off to troubleshoot.

OK - For the life of me, I cannot find the slave solenoid. The manual I downloaded was dated 1999, so maybe by 2006/7 they did away with the slave solenoid?
