Re: mercruiser overheating

You do need to account for the missing parts of the old impeller... They could be lodged in the heat exchanger or the exhaust elbow. Blocking any part of either of those items will reduce the cooling on the engine (It'll overheat under load)... While you have the drive split apart check the water pocket cover....

Chris.......

If you don't know what a water pocket cover is.... -> http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=556903&p=3825409&viewfull=1#post3825409[/QUOTE i was having problem with my motor overheating and was advise to replae please help ce the water pump which i did before i installed the pump the motor was running fine. finshed installing the water pump now the engine wont start did i missed something. before i removed it i shifted to forward to remove the outdrive. did i do something wrong inside the outdriv

Errr, you did pull it back to neutral.... Have to ask...

What's the exact symptom? Any clicking? does it turn over but not fire? It's raining here and my crystal ball's all fogged up, help me out a bit....

EDIT: and I'm about to go fishing, so I'm 'off-line' for a few hours. :D :D :D :p

Did you hold the lower half in forward gear while you mated the halves by twisting the splined shift shaft on the lower CW and turn the prop CCW until it locks, that's forward, and you have to hold pressure on the prop the whole time either with your hand or use a bungee cord on the prop.

The shift shaft on the upper half will be straight fore and aft in forward
