mercruiser throttle -working backwards?

Not sure what is happening with this. I replaced the throttle cable and throttle lever.
Went to adjust the shift /throttle cables and found that the throttle on the carb is full closed when
the throttle lever is either full forward or full back. The only time the carb is full open is when
the throttle lever is in neutral. Checked the part numbers and the throttle is for this application.

This would probably work fine if the throttle cable approached the carb from the front instead of the rear.

Does this make sense ? I am going to the marina to see if I can find a new throttle and see how the arms
throw. Are there different throttle levers for a Mercruiser 260 single engine on a 78 Wellcraft ?

Thanks

lot of the controls are made to push or pull. Might just need to move cable to other end of lever

Therer aren't any other holes. Well obviously this lever is for a push to accelerate carb setup. Anyone know were I can order a MERC 260 throttle linkage that has a pull to accelerate setup ? Never saw an option for this when I was looking for a replacement. One would think there would be a hole/hookup to change this. Don't see anything like this on the unit I have.

Post a picture of your throttle/shift control. Almost all Mercruisers use pull for throttle opening.

Ok Will do. This is going to be more fun than I expected. Tried to search for a 1978 Throttle control Top console mount for a Mercruiser 260. Every place I look it is no longer available. Please tell me there is a site that I am not seeing !!

Thanks

Impossible to give you a site, if we don't know what you have. Kind of why I asked for a picture.
