Re: Merc 140hp 71 Compression
Exactly what are they doing for $450? ($450 seems excessive)
I paid $250 10+ years ago for a 140 head rebuild, but all parts were replaced including the hardened exhaust seats and high performance undercut valves. 2 years ago they did a valve job on it, only springs and retainers were replaced, and it cost $180, which seemed a bit high to me, but oh' well... The total machine shop bill from 2 years ago was around $500, including a crank grind, tanking block, boring the block, pistons pressed, cam gear pressed, cam bearings installed.
I know this isn't 10 years, or 2 years ago, but $450 seems high for head work, even with the economy in the crapper and prices going up.
Rod inserts = piston pins?
