Disregard the A in your serial number.. The trailer button raises the engine fully up if it is still connected to the limit switch. If wired correctly the key has to be "on" and the "up" button on handle will only raise engine to the set limit, then you use trailer to raise it the rest of the way.

If wired correctly the key does NOT have to be ON...

Re: Model year doesnt add up

I just checked the links on Mercury model years and it came up as 1985?
Just got the boat but need a transom before it hits the water.
It has only been used 2 times in the last 4 years and the water flow from the tell tale isnt to good. Came with a new impellor.

The A is obviously added later. Disregard it.

If it has good compression, everything else is pretty easy to fix and there's lots of used parts available for it.

good luck

The impeller should be an annual maintenance item. A long time sitting, or one dry "pop off to see if it starts" will do them in.

They tend to pee weakly in cold water. All the water for the tell-tale goes through the thermostats, and it's just a sample off a drain line to the lower, so it doesn't develop much pressure. A spider nest will block the hose off pretty easily.

hope it helps

Sorry...but key DOES have to be on, these boxes use the acc. terminal(white not purple)on key to supply power to trim/trailer and choke button.. we used to cut the wire and tie it in to the battery connection at key so customer would not accidently leave key on.

This appears to be a predominantly Australian thread so I shall throw my hat in the ring.

I am an Australian!:D
