The 1998 Trackers were Force, not Mercury. Common mistake.

First stop pulling things off when the engine is running or you will make more problems ie $$$$$$ to spend ...Sounds like a switchbox or trigger problem to me .if possible swop all the switch box connections for a good cylinder to the lower one and re test ..some 3 cyl units had 4 switch boxes ( well two double units) with one section not used ..ie a spare...sorry I have no manual for this model

From 92 - 99 they were mercury ignitions. If you go to outboardignition.com there are troubleshooting guides to try to isolate the problem. it could be switchbox, coil packs , trigger , or stator. basically you have to check everything and you will need a dva meter and possibly a test harness. I have the same motor except a 90hp and i have done basic troubleshooting without the dva and harness. good luck

75 ELPTO is a Mercury.

Force did not make a 75 hp oil injected engine.

And the 75 hp had cdm ignition, so no switchbox to deal with.

Re: Mods Delete

Why was this thread deleted i am confused because a tracker was a force which was really just a name continued by mercury for there tier two motors. They had cdm ignitions with the switchbox integrated with the coil packs. It's a shame because guys like us with these motors have trouble finding help with them because mercury guys say they are force and chrysler/force guys say they are mercury motors which they really are but when you need parts for them you need to look them up under force and the parts come in packages with "quicksilver" all over them which tells me that its a merc product somewhere along the line. People are just trying to get help here and not thrown all around guess what my is motor is category. Good luck to anyone with the 96 - 99 force tracker by merc motors.
