More Trouble for my 6hp Fisherman...

I just finished with the water pump, new housing (the PO cranked down on it and split it), new impeller, new thermostat and gasket. I put it in the barrel and let her run for a while. She stalled a few times, I traced that to a weak primer bulb. I think the check valves in it are bad. When I squeeze it, I can hear fuel pissing back into the tank. I'll get a new primer bulb.
My second issue is the big one. Right after I ran it, I sut it down, hosed it off and drained the lower unit oil... What came out, was a thick (like shampoo) white oil. I'm suspecting water intrusion... Is that what it looks like when water gets in? I'm asking becuase I read another link where it said that same substance could be assembly lube and Special Lube 1010 or 2-4-C mixed together, not to be confused with water intrusion. This stuff has the consistancy of something alot heavier than just oil. if I had bad seals, wouldnt it be leaking oil out also? Please help out here before I break it down for nothing.

Drain it into a jar, let it sit.
If it separates into a layer of water and lube you have bad seals.

If it doesn't separate I would rinse out the gearcase and refill with the PROPER lube for your motor.

I wish I could... I drained it into a drain pan that already had some spent oil in it. I checked my seals prior to draining and they were both bone dry. If they were bad, wouldnt I have an indication they were bad by oil leaking through?

Could be someone put in Lubriplate 105 grease. It's very thick and white, but is almost impossible to drain in the usual manner. I use it in my Mercury 45hp and to drain it, I actually have to pump new in the bottom and let the old push out the top.

There are a couple of different seals that could be leaking. The oil fill and drain plug seals... and the gearcase seal.

i had this running for about 45mins and it came out ever so slow. No where near the way oil drains outta everything else. Would you recommend the lubriplate grease over oil?

I had the lower unit off when I replaced the waterpump, I inpected all the seals, they were all dry. may have been the fill or drain plug... Thanks for the tips.

Water won't mix with the lubriplate, so when you remove the drain plug, the water will drain first if there is any in there. Just use regular 80-90wt. marine gear oil in that lower unit.

There is no way to tell if the seals are bad without pressure or vacuum testing the gearcase. A visual inspection won't tell you much.

Thanks man, I'll fill it and run it a while, and see what I've got. Is there any way to get ALL that old crap out?

Just pump new oil in the bottom - the old will come out the vent, so keep pumping until only new oil is coming out the vent. That should do it.

If that has the old style 2 piece gearcase they a notorious leakers. Some folks just change the lube more often.
Not too inviromently friendly. but they get by.I don't think lubriplate 105 will drain nor blend with water.
Put fresn gearcase lube in and run it a few hours and check. If its like coffee with cream do the seals.
