I have no issue with deliberate misspelling, but my absolute fave: definate.

Guilty as charged ... that one gets me ALL the time

There was a "Try Hole" boat listed on our local CL a few months ago. I'm not sure whether it was that boat or another one listed about the same time that included a new "death finder".

Re: Most mispelt words in boat ads thread

Wow, I see a lot of incorrect spellings but consider poking fun at someone for it rude. I also feel many people do it intentionally, they are the people who need to be made fun of for knowing better and still doing it.

that said

It's not 'There boat', it's 'Their boat'.

Its not 'The boat over their' , 'It's The boat is over there'

And it's not 'Their going to the beach', It's 'They're going to the beach'.

and the one I notice most is tralor, trailor, traler,.

One of your its should be an it's. :) Also, quotes go after the period. :D I'm not poking fun at you. :p

I can't believe noone said Chaparral yet. (Commonly misspelled as Chapparal, or Chaparrel) I realize most people that don't own (or haven't owned) one don't know how it's spelled. But my favorite is when they have a photo of the boat in their ad, with the name on the side of the boat, and they still spell it wrong!

Funny, but I type in slang sometimes. Heck I use it verbally, so why not type when in a friendly environment as opposed to business. I use:

Prolly
Gonna
Wanna
Modulator (for Moderator)
Kinda
Whassup

Stuff like that. Maybe they make me look stupid? Dunno.

Well maybe I'm just uninformed. If I see gonna or wanna I figure its an abbreviation. But prolly to me means they don't know English. I meannn......I hear people even SAY prolly.

A guy I used to know (he was a Boyscout leader) used to call it a bombfire and was dead serious about it!.

Irregardless, lots of misspellings.

Not a misspelling problem so much as a mis-understanding, but people who list their Boat, Car, etc, with a V4 engine (they don't understand the difference between a V and in-line engine).

Obviously there is an exception with outboards, motorcycles, and older European cars, but I always get a chuckle out of it.

I think good, proper grammar and correct spelling is a little like good and proper table manners. When among friends we tend to relax the rules somewhat. I appreciate the colloquial spellings of the prolly, gonna, wanna, because it adds flavor like a spice to reading the post. We all have our little peeves about certain word misspellings (for me it's the words a lot being spelled "alot") but we can all skim past these lest we be judged on which fork we eat the salad with.

Is this guy French? "BOAT TRALIER - $1900" I know it's not a typo b/c he said it again in the ad.

"33 ft criss craft - $4500" This one features "threw hulls" and a "slidding door."

"1994 20'3" STINGRAY BOAT VERY NICE ENGINE WORKS PERFECT V6 4.3L MERCRUSER ANY QWESTIONS PLEASE CALL # $3500"

Gunnels. The only thing worse is when they pronounce "gunwales" as "gun whales."

For, bilge, "billage." I went fishing with a guy who kept saying it that way, and since I didn't know him and we were far from land, I didn't say anything, but I kept thinking how "billage" rhymes with "village" and one is missing its idiot.

And if your deck winch becomes a **** wench, you have been at sea too long.

Damn  I've messed that one up before even though I know better. I've always known the right way, since I was a little kid. I think I've seen it so dang much it has almost become interchangeable. Funny because I am a total d!ckweed when it comes to Fender. Man I hate Bumpers and Buoys being used for Fender. Not a spelling issue, but it pizzes me off fo sho . . . there I go again  :D
